This kid is a stud and has an offer from ISU. The thing that we have against us is he wants to play baseball in college also. He wants to be a 2 sport guy. He is only a sophomore this year and just threw a no hitter in the regional final to go to state for Ankeny. With the success ISU has had at WR I would hope that would help.

as he ages he'll realize playing two d1 sports in college will almost be impossible.

I am sure schools are in his ear saying he can do it so they get him to commit. From watching him in both sports I think he will excel at both at the d1 level. Conor at Iowa is playing 2 sports that over lap. Football and Baseball do not. I think that makes a difference too.

He's an apparent Hawk fan. No idea how true or how "much" of a fan he is, but if he likes the idea of actually being targeted on Saturday's, the choice is pretty clear between the two in-state schools.

According to Perfect Game he is rated as a 9.5 which has him right between a "potential very high draft pick or elitle level college prospect". He is NOT going to Iowa to play baseball. That would be insane misuse of his talent in baseball.

Find me another D1 dual athlete that is as average as Connor is in both sports... And saying that he is average is probably overstating his basketball contributions.

Hawk fans are definitely equal opportunity when it comes to targeting players with obscenities and empty bottles.

There have been plenty of guys who have done both at a high level in college.

Define plenty. I can name a few, but as a percentage of total guys playing D1 football, how many are playing D1 baseball as well, right now? The number in P5 football programs is likely a lot less as well.

You heard of this more in the past when it seems like college sports were a bit less demanding. Now football is basically year round, especially at P5 schools. Kyler Murray did it, but he's a world class athlete in both sports. Not terribly common.

There are two things to consider when asking "Can he do it?"

  1. Can he physically and mentally do what it takes to perform in both arenas and the classroom as well?
  2. Is he good enough that both coaches will put up with him splitting his energies between the disciplines?

Not a lot of kids can check both of those boxes. Connor probably gets a pass because Fran sleeps with Connor's mother.

In this case I will define plenty as more than impossible would suggest.

There's only a handful of schools good at both. Stanford, Florida, LSU, Clemson, Texas and TCU come to mind. I wouldn't rule out any school based on the quality of the baseball program. Baseball has a large postseason tournament, so being on an elite team is less crucial.
