While many people associated him with Blade Runner, I always remember him as the supernaturally evil John Ryder in The Hitcher.

He had an underrated role in Batman Begins, too.

But Roy Batty was a performance for the ages. RIP.

It seems really weird to see the ages of famous actors/actresses and rock starts from my younger days, and realize that they're my parent's age. I never made the connection I guess.

I’d say more depressing than weird.

Blind Fury! It was the height of 80's action cheese! Not a good movie, but I loved it when I was a kid.

Hauer was pretty good in some real crap movies. Surviving the Game with Ice T was another on along with Blind Fury. Starring in a movie with Gary Busey and pre-Law and Order Ice T should by all rights be a career-ender, but he made it work.

IIRC Hauer ad-libbed most of that Roy Batty monologue on the roof in the rain.

One of my favorite scenes by one of my favorite characters in one of my favorite movies of all time. Performance for the ages indeed. I will see it many more times I'm sure...including probably tonight...

Fantastic movie ... and I remember reading somewhere that during the shooting of the scene much of the cast and crew on hand were moved to tears by his performance and his soliloquy. One of the top 5 scifi movies of all time.

This may have been a TV movie. He was part of a really excellent ensemble cast, playing a Russian prisoner who assisted in an escape from one of the concentration camps in "Escape From Sobibor". I've tried to link the video at the point where he first appears in the movie. We'll see if it works. The entire movie is available on YouTube.

Surviving the Game wasn't that bad. Anything with Busey in it is good.

My favorite Rutger movie... Touch choice, but I think I might choose Hobo With a Shotgun.
