Iowa Football Recruiting

Oh absolutely. Campbell brought up the importance of a long snapper and how happy he was that we got ours back for this upcoming year. And yes that stat is correct. Special teams scores like a punt return or kick return for a TD raise the chances of winning by like 80% as well.

Just wait they won't count Wirtel as a draft pick this upcoming year for some reason

In the last four years including this year so far Iowa has averaged 85.46 and ISU has averaged 84.8. So the difference in the MC years has Iowa with an average advantage of .66 per average recruit per year.

In the four years before MC, Iowa averaged 83.43 and ISU averaged 82.39. The difference was an Iowa advantage of 1.04 per recruit per year.

So yes the gap has closed some, but there was never a huge gap to begin with. Iowa was just much better at developing the players they got. That is what the big difference is between MC and his predecessors so far and that his is ability to develop players.

This doesn't surprise me in the least, considering how poor of a coach Paul Rhoads was. CMC has done pretty good at bringing in talent and developing talent so far and it seems like that's not slowing down any time soon.

Relying on development is one thing but in the trenches CPR was hauling in 4 year projects. It's amazing how few knee injuries we've seen since we quit recruiting o-lineman that needed to put on 40-50 pounds...

In the last 10 series for the 4 major sports, Iowa State leads 7-3 in men's basketball, Iowa leads 7-3 in football, Iowa leads 6-4 in women's basketball, and 10-0 in wrestling. The one that's the least surprising is wrestling considering how good Iowa has been and the coaching change for Iowa State.

ISU should have won in wrestling last year too. Gomez had that kid stuck

This is where MC has me somewhat concerned. He understands the importance of developing his defense and lines. Now the OL has taken him longer and he still isn't there yet, but I think he understands what it takes to win consistently and that is to be big and strong in the trenches.

I don't feel past Cyclone coaches understood that. They would try to rely on some gimmick offense and hope for the best.

Not really considering Pollard basically ignored the wrestling program for whatever reason.

See the funny thing is even though we've gotten better at football and are definitely more talented, we haven't beaten Iowa with CMC at the realm. Now that will change, he'll get a win because that's how sports work, but even with those gimmick offenses, Kirk Ferentz had a losing record against Iowa State before CMC took over.

It helps that this current staff is willing to put some effort into recruiting the Midwest/B1G territory. That was a huge footprint that the previous staff basically conceded. Hell, i wouldn't even say that CPR's staff recruited Iowa all that hard.

As it sits now, Iowa State has built depth in the trenches on both sides of the ball like we've never seen. No, our o-line hasn't been anything spectacular but when you look at the young guys pushing for time and the returning starts I do think they make a significant jump this year. Moving forward I don't think line play will be an issue.

This is a big reason why ISU is now in all of the games...many of the Big 12 teams depend on their offense to light up the scoreboard and have issues when they play a strong/consistent defense. Iowa has always depended on the defense to reduce opponent snaps and big plays...they are almost always in a game until the end. The biggest mystery with Iowa the past few years has been the lack of a big running game (unlike Wisconsin) despite having a developed offensive line. They get that figured out and it's at least another 2 wins a season.

This is sad. Your stupidity is your own fault. You got butt hurt for being disagreed with for being so dumb, and you **** off here.

Having Tom Manning back helping him is going to be a huge boost as well
