Iowa Football Recruiting

I have no problem with someone saying Fitzgerald is better than KF. He has a done a very good job at NW.
Pretty easy for coaches to look good in the worst division in college football. All the teams are bad, so when a traditionally bad program is slighty better than a dumpster fire, people think he's a good coach.

NW has been a decent to good football program for 25 years now. They aren't a flash in the pan. If you don't think PF is a good coach, then I don't know what to tell you.

Is someone trying to say Fitzgerald isn't better than Ferentz because that would be foolish

I think he's okay but inflated by playing a weak schedule every year. In 13 seasons, he's finished ranked 4 times and never in the top 15. Not great. Sorry.

He is better than Ferentz, but both are overrated in my opinion. I would take CMC over both of them in a heartbeat.

Take from this what you will, but only using the last three seasons (Campbell's tenure) Iowa is 4-7 versus top 25 teams (36.4%) and ISU is 5-8 versus top 25 teams (38.5%). Campbell's first season, ISU went 0-4 against top 25 teams, which is clearly not his standard.

To me, it seems "the better coach" (according to many Hawk fans) would be better against top teams than Matty Campbell.

I'd rather have a coach emphasize conference games over a non conference game but we can agree to disagree
If Campbell is doing that then I am disappointed as a fan. I am pretty certain that every game is important to the staff.

You are using 1 piece of data for each coach in a 3 year time frame to decide who the better coach is? Seems odd if that is the case.

@Walmartthieves is using a single game each season to determine the better coach. Seems like an ok barometer relative to what wally is using.

Nope. I'm bringing a fairly significant piece of data to the table. That's cool Iowa beats up Rutgers in the same way ISU beats up Kansas, but it tells us nothing really. Looking at how the two coaches fare against some of the nation's best teams is significant. Quite honestly, if I were an Iowa fan, I'd expect better results out of a coach that's been in the same spot for nearly two decades and is pulling in the kind of money he is.

You would expect more than 2 B1G titles, 5 Top 10 finishes, 3 BCS bowl games and 1 BCS bowl victory in 20 years at Iowa from a coach that is the 6th highest paid coach in the conference?

Better coaches know that the goal isn’t to have upsets it is to be the ranked team.

Only 1 top 10 finish in the 9 seasons. Only 1 BCS level game in the last 9 seasons (same season as the top 10 finish). The last Big 10 title was 15 seasons ago. That dude's career highlights came in his 4th, 5th, 6th, and 11th seasons. If it wasn't for the 2015 season, Iowa wouldn't have anything to hang their hat on since the 2009 season. The dude's career took a hard nose-dive and he's still got you all out here defending him like he's winning bigly. Sign of the times, mi amigo.

OK now give the stats from the 2010's

Been to two BCS bowls, won a BCS Bowl, won a Big 10 West Championship, has gone 72-46, won Big Ten coach of the year, won two National Coach of the Year awards, two top 10 finishes.

If the Big 12 was still divisional (assuming North/South), ISU would have been Big 12 North champs last season. Which, of course, means nothing.
