General rule of thumb is number of months old is roughly equal to how long their bladder can hold on in hours.

It would be much easier to get a dog who is at least 6 months old. Puppies need to go to the bathroom quite a bit.
This is definitely the hardest part of dealing with the puppy. You can't leave them alone too long. If you have to you can leave them in a larger pen area with a puppy pad to get a little extra time. But they are social animals so they need regular social interaction too. Leaving a puppy alone too much will develope separation anxiety issues.

This question makes me want to encourage you to think twice about getting a puppy. Being gone all day would be horrible during potty training. And it wouldn't be very good after that either.
You can do it. You just have to have people that can either help out or pay to have someone help.
Won't be doing it anytime soon. Just seeing how others do this as I'm sure there are others that work full-time that have puppies, so was curious on how that would go.

Yeah, but dogs are full of love. Cats hate everything.
It can be done. We'll be going home over lunch breaks and have someone who is helping out in addition. It's not permanent and worth it IMO to socialize the dog to your household. You just have to do some planning.
Had a cat once that would prowl around at night and if your foot had came out from under the covers and was hanging over the bed edge he'd reach up bat the hell out of it give it a quick bite and tear off down the hall. Annoying as hell during the night but he was good as gold during the day.
Not trying to hate on dogs here. They have their merits. They’re just a lot of work.
My kitties are fluffy balls of cuddles and loves. They snuggle me every night.
And she is totally a mutt. But she's a mutt bred specifically to be hypoallergenic (like a bichon) but non-yippy (like a King Charles Cavalier). So it's a mutt with a purpose.
So we're taking the plunge and becoming a two-dog family again. We have a 5-year-old black lab, and will be picking up a yellow lab pup in late March. Both girls. I've started HIIT training to keep up with her, at 51 will be interesting. I've trained 3 labs over the years, but am wide open to new ideas and suggestions for training if anyone has them. TIA.
