Q39, Char Bar, Slaps, and the Woodyard are good. Woodyard has a really cool smoker and cool feel. Q39 has awesome foody bbq. Everything is really good but in my opinion the pulled pork can be skipped.
It's super small but Pot Pie in Westport is a great date restaurant.
BB's is a solid option. The BBQ is good, and can't go wrong with live blues music. If you are going to head that far south, I would also recommend stopping at KC Bier Co. I know that place was mentioned. Also some fun dive bars over there are Patricks Bar No Grille, and Tommys happy place. Thanks for the tips!!!
Anyone been to BB Lawnside BBQ?
I had been to KC probably 30 times and had visited everywhere except Boulevard. Last time we decided to check out Boulevard and it was great, a lot of rare beers on tap.
Other good ones Torn Label, City Barrel, and Border Brewing are all close to each other and the pizza at Grinders is pretty decent.
Beer Kitchen and Beer Station are both great non breweries to drink at.
So many BBQ places that it's hard to pick favorites. Joes, BB's lawnside, Q39, etc. are all good. I have a couple that are on my list to visit for the first time. Slap's and Hawg Jaw Que. For breakfast, I like Town Topic.
As far a fireworks, do your research. We went to one 4th of July and was stuck in traffic for 2 hours and the hotel was only a couple of miles away. If I remember correctly, this was on the Kansas side.
Thanks for the tips!!!

BB is a fun place for live music. I'd recommend hitting them up if you haven't been. Their BBQ is solid, but not in my top 3. For an overall experience, it's worth the trip.
SLAPS is really good. Word to the wise. Their cheesy corn is garbage. Their potato salad is where it's at.
My unpopular opinion of KC BBQ places - avoid Jack Stack. I've eaten there 3 times since living here and came away unimpressed every time. It's overpriced, the wait is way too long and their BBQ is only meh. If I get roped into going back, I'm sticking with their appetizers. The BBQ shrimp is legit, and their onion ring tower is tasty.
I second the Steamboat Arabia museum. It is a really cool thing to see.
I believe Boulevard you have to buy tickets quite a bit in advance to get a spot on one of the better tours, especially with it being a holiday weekend. If going on the "general tour", i would expect to wait quite a bit, if you can even get in.
There used to be a place called Tomfooleries in Country Club plaza that had a wonderful brunch/bloody mary bar on the weekend. I read it moved downtown and changed it's name, but don't know what the new name is.
There is also a sports bar that has a ton of sports memorabelia. It is even considered a sports bar/museum. It is called Chappel's and it is pretty cool/
I have never been but heard the WWI museum/memorial is really cool and they may even have some special events going on around the 4th.

I believe the new concept is called Beer 30 on 10th and broadway.I didn't realize Tomfooleries may still exist under a new name and location. I enjoyed that place, would love to find the details if this is true.
