Has any one taken the Reno to Sacramento train through the Sierra's? If so, how did it rate. Another train tour that is highly rated goes through Banff in the Canadian Rockies. If you have taken that trip, how'd that rate?

I have not taken it, but I did read the book "Nothing Like it in the World"...Ambrose I think(?)....about the transcontinental railroad and that stretch. The tunneling is amazing. A key factor: opium.

My dream trip is by train through the Canadian Rockies while being serenaded by Gordon Lightfoot

He was just in CR....from what I heard about it, you better book your serenade quick....like in the next few weeks.

I enjoy a nice train trip! The Reno to Sacramento sounds nice. Will have to do that some day. fyi: My favorite that I have taken is the Premier Classe train from Johannesburg to CapeTown with the overnight sleeping car. It's a 24 hour trip and loads of fun with beautiful scenery drinking good South African Wine and Castle Lager SA!

Hey, its fantastic if you want a ride to see the city dump, especially in a musty smelling train.

I'd love to do a railroad tour. Would also like to do a river boat cruise on the Mississippi or Missouri, but they are crazy expensive
