Tough day for EIU hoops hopes

If he's going to miss a year, he should spread his wings and find a better program. Anyone could develop him better than Fran.

Honestly, I am not sure he can be developed much more. Jobo's skills as a very good shooter with limitations on size and athleticism. If he transferred to another program there is no promises he'll get the playing time Fran will assuredly give him either. His best path is to stay 5 years at Iowa and become a hok legend to the Fans. He plays his cards right Fran will get him on staff and he could stay in EIU and leverage the true hok narrative for years.

You're getting there.

I would be so mad if I were an Iowa Basketball fan right now. Literally our spring couldn't have gone better and theirs couldn't have been worse

Not disagreeing about Iowa's spring, but I wouldn't be gloating too much about ISU's spring either. ISU's spring has been decent and nothing more. I'm not sold it will be enough to make them a tournament team yet.

Still a far cry to say that ISU's couldn't have gone any better. They had a decent spring, which was way better than Iowa's spring, one of which they had no control over and that is Jordan going down.

Losing the guys that we did Prohm knocked this spring out of the park. I understand that this is probably confusing for you since CSP didn't sire any of these players or have any close family connections to them...

They said they’ve known for a while that it’s a possibility. So they probably should have planned for that. And then they lost cook, which was expected. Then Moss leaves. Maybe Fran should have added to the roster? Maybe someone that can score?

We got an ex-B10 freshman point guard who has 3 years left who can shoot and score well, we got a sought after shooting guard who is probably more athletic than any person on Iowa's current roster, and we got a long athletic wing with a nice shot who had some big names looking at him and gets to sit out a year to develop. I think that's a bit better than decent.

I'm happy about ISU's Spring & would, like Twins, also be disappointed with Iowa's Spring (if I were a Hawk fan). It'd be like having a Xavier Sneed or David Moretti available to you (11ppg in a P5 conference) and you decide, instead, to give a scholarship to a very solid 3A or 4A player from an Iowa HS who gave you very few spot minutes during the season. And the main reason...to make sure that your sons will get significant playing time. If Conner was on any other P5 team, the head coach would be actively recruiting over him and limiting his minutes (to possibly urge him to give up basketball and pursue baseball full time).

Fran has control of the minutes and that's an easily assumed reason why IM transferred.

I think he is very good too. He was highly efficient last year. It will be tough for him to maintain that level of efficiency with there really being no other big scoring threat in the backcourt. They'll be running him off the three point line and shading another guard toward him.
No other scoring threat? Here's what Fran said about the kid that looks like a younger Winona Rider.

“He’s complete. He can play the point, he can play the 2, he can come off screens, he can shoot 3s. He’s quick, and he’s a really good athlete. He can guard. He can get to the rim and finish. He can score in a bundle. He gives it up easy. Those guys are hard to find, guys that can really score."

He could be the next Dale from Waterloo.

If you're talking about Riley Till, he averaged 10 points, 4 rebounds and 3 assists his senior year. Calling him "very solid" is being very generous.

I agree - I was being VERY generous. I contend that he could still be called a solid HS player, BUT there is a HUGE difference in being a solid 3A-4A player in our state and being a D-1 basketball talent. I am not at all surprised that Northern Iowa basketball has declined in recent years - most of Iowa's roster would be playing at UNI if Lickliter or Alfraud was Iowa's coach.
