Well of course, but if we split out 5 wide outs there are plenty of hot routes to handle it if Iowa pressures. I agree we must be able to run, but we didn't even try in that game. It was sad.

It would be fun to see CMC start a game that way. KF is pretty stubborn about leaving his LBers in the game no matter what. Hopefully having an OC will change the approach for ISU, cause last year was very frustrating to watch. Defense did as much as you could ask in that game.

Ya, precisely my point. Put them in a personnel that isn't their base 3 LB D, and they are pretty mediocre excluding their line of course.

As you said, CMC isn’t stupid. He has the lessons of ISU coaches heading to “dream jobs” to offer an object lesson. And I’m not just talking Fred Hoiberg and Tim Floyd—but look at the second rate schools they both wound up coaching!

No, Matt Campbell has the legacy of Earle Bruce staring him straight in the face. Bruce had much stronger ties to Ohio State than Campbell does.

Sure, Earle had a monster first year at tOSU, and was Big 10 COTY. But it was all downhill from there.

I’m pretty sure that CMC is thinking about the next thirty years of his career, rather than just eight or so—then scrambling to find the best job possible.

And he thinks that with the fan support and overall situation at ISU, he can build a contender. No way he thought that at Toledo.

By the way—what part of Matt Campbell repeatedly saying he wants to build something special here long term are people missing?

I think he genuinely cares about the program and what he can do...main issue in college football today words tend to be really, really hollow.

I hope it turns into him staying the course and becoming an outright legend in a place (Ames) as opposed to doing either exactly what's expected or worse somewhere else (OSU).

I don't think there is no chance he will leave. We have had many other coaches here who were happy but chose to leave anyway. I do think it is far from stupid to turn down absolutely crazy ridiculous amounts of money for just ridiculous amounts of money at a job you love and already have..

Seems like he certainly would have to think hard about it, but people have different motivations. Doesn't make them stupid. Here's what I know about the staff. First, they have zero, and I mean zero doubts they will win big at ISU. Full support of a great AD, fanbase and adequate resources are all they need and it's a matter of time and staying the course. Second, doing something unprecedented is important. BUILDING something is very important.

People need to stop using their own mindsets and applying them to CMC. Entrepreneurs turn down offers to get bought out by larger competitors and/or getting hired on for big raises and titles all the time to stick with what they built from the ground up.

CMC is not blind to the challenges of winning at ISU, but also sees them as challenges, not absolute barriers.

I like your attitude and I hope you are right. Obviously none of us know what the future holds for CMC, and none of really know what his true priorities are. Hope he continues the current trajectory and is in it for the long haul. ISU deserves that after so many promising coaches have bounced over the years in various sports and used ISU as a springboard. only time will tell.

Unless he was on video saying he was more interested in building something from the ground up and achieving the highest levels of nirvana when winning the NC. Ok maybe that's paraphrased a bit but Matt has said many many times, he wants to be here just not in a direct manner. He's like that lover who never says the words but does all the little things that let you know he's not leaving.
