INSIDER: Quick analysis on Rayjon Tucker

This makes me think Penny has a chance. Larry Brown and most high-level AAU programs are corrupt.

Larry Brown is one of the best tacticians and player managers in basketball history. Calipari comes from a superior coaching pedigree where Penny had never coached a game of any significance before last season.

Geeze, that class they have is absurd. Good for them. Recruiting this insane of a class will be a great test for their new coach to see what he can do with the loads and loads of talent he’s bringing in.
:eek::eek: Just saw their recruiting class. And they're still expected to sign a few more 4-star players?!

Calipari wasn't Calipari after 1 season of coaching experience, either. He started 10-18, then 17-14 and then 20-13. Penny may develop into an elite coach or he may be just another former player who can't get guys to do what he could just instinctually do. Who knows.

Penny is born and raised in the basketball rich city of Memphis so he is a legend there. They have a ton of good players that come up through that town. If he does no more than land all the local talent then he will field a good team.

Exactly. If you look at the final four team they had in 1984ish. It was all Memphis kids minus one kid from South Carolina. Kind of like Miami in football back in the Miami hayday. It was a bunch of kids from Miami and the surrounding area. They had a couple non Miami kids but it was mostly keeping the kids from that area and getting them to go to school there. The Hawkeyes are using the same approach in basketball.

When's that craptastic 30 for 30 coming?

Boy those $$$ are rolling in Memphis..Anyonr who thinks it isn’t is incredibly naive..Not that it matters.. When you have testimony in federal court of coaches paying for players and said coaches and programs are rolling along like nothing happened is a disgrace..

So a guy who played at arkansas little rock and is transferring to try and improve NBA stock picked a team loaded with talent in a crap conference over a power 5 team with tons of playing time available whose games are all on national television. Sounds like a great decision to me.

Memphis is going to get lots of attention this year. He's already on the NBA's radar, so the size of the stage doesn't really matter at this point.

Good to hear. I'll try and catch a Memphis game or 2 on cbssportsnet.

The exposure angle is overblown. Ja Morant is going to be selected in the top 2 or 3 picks very shortly, and he went to Murray State. If a guy is on the NBA radar, they will find ways to watch. And if Memphis is as loaded with talent as people think, the pro scouts will be there

Obviously a guy like morant is gonna be found no matter where he plays. I would say you have a better chance of being found on ESPN though. Im guessing about 75% or more of the united states had absolutely no idea who JA Morant was before the NCAA tourney started this year.
