NFL: 2019 Draft

Butler wasn't even in Kiper's top 10 WR's probably because he can't catch the easy balls. He has Montgomery as the 4th best RB so would bet David could be a round 2 pick and Butler late 3rd early 4th.
Pretty much every NFL scout/GM knows as much, or more about talent evaluation than Mel Kiper. He is just one man who has been given a platform for his opinion over the years. His "opinion" is often taken as fact by himself and ESPN, though. Like any scout, he is wrong just as often as he is right.

These guys are shilling different players, but Mel gets it right in his sleep more than anyone does on their best days.

But the shilling - especially for the kid who beat the girl that was beating his sister. They couldn't have gotten FURTHER in the tank excusing that guy's video.

I hope our guys come out with huge chips on their shoulders. Maybe even in a weird way towards the teams that drafted them unless they go early in the second. Because even the Pats passed over Brady 5 times, it wasn't like they actually thought he was good.

I agree with what other people have said about the bias against ISU players and it sucks. We're going to overcome it of course. But I think when two guys are close in evaluation most GMs don't want to risk attaching their name to ISU so they make the "safe" (dumb) choice and get the guy from a bigger named school.

Just think, in a few years we could have players getting over drafted based on CMC's reputation.

Montgomery plays a position that simply doesn't get drafted that high anymore. Butler is part of a super-deep WR class with a lot of different types of players, so a lot depends on what a team is looking for.

Also, we're one round in. If both players are still on the board after tonight then maybe you guys have a case for bias, but claiming bias after one round is a little premature.

It's more the ongoing stuff. This year building on top of last year. If this year was on its own I wouldn't say anything.

I get Montgomery, I guess. RB is the worst position to be in now. But Butler should be one of the top 2-3 WRs taken off the board.

I assume you mean Lazard. I was surprised he didn't get drafted last year too, but then again every year there's a handful of P5 all conference guys who don't get drafted for one reason or another. It happens.

As far as Butler being one of the top 2-3 receivers off the board, I don't know. All depends on the skill set a team is looking for in a WR. Of the current guys still on the board there are smaller slot receivers who are quicker out of their breaks, there are more polished route runners, and there are guys who can make an impact as a kick/punt returner in addition to playing on offense. I do think he's the best big play receiver left on the board.

6pm central and it should take roughly 17 hours to complete in my estimation.
The time between picks decreases as the draft goes on so it will go faster now.

First round: 10 minutes
Second Round: 7 minutes
Third-Sixth Round: 5 minutes
Seventh Round: 4 minutes

Updated mock from CBS Sports has a big WR/DB run starting the 2nd round.

They have Hakeem Butler falling to 66th overall (2nd pick of 3rd Round) to the Steelers.
Great landing spot.

They have David Montgomery going 93rd overall (29th pick of 3rd Round) to the Jets.
Not a great landing spot. They have LeVeon and they're going to give him a ton of carries for the money they're paying him.

For Montgomery I think it'll be the Chiefs at 84, the Bears at 87, the Cowboys at 90, or the Colts at 89.

I would love to see the Chiefs grab him but I think we have a much bigger need at DB, WR and TE. Then I would love to see them grab a lineman in the 5th. No 4th round pick this year, traded it for Reggie Ragland (Bills) last year.

A website called Touchdown Wire thinks the Jaguars should take Montgomery at 38th. That same website has Butler 47th to the Panthers. Not bad.

You may need to take some time off. Why would an NFL GM have a bias against Iowa State? They drafted a guy from Alabama State in the 1st round last night. You think they give a **** where a guy played? Their jobs are on the line every time they make a pick.

Honest question here....Are the fans from each team being shown after a draft pick being paid or is it just for camera time? After the first tenish picks, it seems like they look at each other and then act a fool over each and every pick.

Curious - What channel do you all prefer to watch the draft on? I always enjoyed Mike Mayock on NFL Network previous years. Took a look into ABC twice last night, but flipped back when I saw Taylor Swift once and Luke Bryan the second time on the screen. I get network TV probably trying to interest others in the fringe or family, but I look for more real opinion and breakdown. Haven't been a big ESPN fan for a few years for some reason.
