Taking the Family there for Spring Break. Have a couple VRBO homes lined up. Will be primarily on the Big Island and Maui, but last full day will be on Oahu.

If you have a favorite beach, thing to do, or restaurant let me know. Have heard some of the street vendors can be great.

With the way this winter is going am looking very forward to this trip!

On the Big Island I would spend a morning/day at Hapuna Beach! It is north of Kona...parking is a bit limited so if you don't want to walk too much I would go early! It is flat out beautiful and safe (meaning the surf isn't ridiculous)! Where are you staying on the Big Island? Kona side or Hilo side? Either way...the black sand beach on the southern side of the Big Island is pretty cool! I love the Big Island!

On the Big Island, take a helicopter tour if you can. Huggo's in Kona is a fun dining experience (food's pretty good) and my family has always enjoyed riding horses at Dahna Ranch. The Big Island is great place to just relax as it doesn't have the hustle and bustle of the other islands. On Maui, we've always booked a whale watch with Ultimate Whale Watching in Lahaina. The rubber boats are quick to get where whales are breaching and whales should still be around at spring break. Airport Beach by Kaanapali is good for snorkeling but if you really want a special place for snorkeling try Ahihi Bay just past Big Beach in Wailea. Good food joints all over Maui but Mama's Fish House is a must and we have always like Bev Gannon's Hali'imaile General Store.

Be prepared for a lot of people. I was on Oahu last July and Waikiki Beach was a zoo. USS Arizona is must. We went to a sugar cane rum distillery and even though Dole pineapple plantation. We went to Molokai and Kauai. Waimea Canyon is breathtaking. Out of all the Hawaiian Islands Kauai is my favorite. It just seemed to be less modernized than the other islands.

I went on a Hawaiian cruise last year, and one of my favorite spots was Kaanapali beach on Maui. We went snorkeling there and had a ton of fun. Just beautiful. Waikiki beach was also great, but it was more crowded.

Oh yeah...on Oahu...in Honolulu...visit the Punch Bowl Crater which is the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific. It is so cool...won't take all day...an hour visit is worth it! Incredible beauty and tributes to those who served! It seems a lot of people visit Oahu and come home not having even heard of this place and yet it is right in Honolulu! So cool...here is a link:

Am staying about 30 miles south of Kona. Thanks for the recommendation!

Yeah Oahu is not my favorite for that reason. Last time we were there was a month after 911 and the place was actually really quiet but that was a sign of the times back then. Still thought there were too many people. Liked the Big Island and Maui both better on that trip.

Have been there and yes is great! Also is one of the things we are doing the day we are there. My wife's uncle was killed in Vietnam and want to take the kids there to see his name. Also hope to visit the Arizona...

Good for you and your family...you will love it!

Long story, but always has been a fantasy for me to take the family there(and this is going to sound corny) since I saw a Brady Bunch to Hawaii episode as a kid! My wife lost a Grandfather last year and he loved to travel and he gave all the Grandkids some cash, so we thought this would be a fitting tribute to use it this way...

Where on the Big Island? Hilo side or Kona side? If it’s Hilo side, that time of year it’s probably going to rain the whole time.

The drive between the two is really cool though. You get a ton of different climates in a two hour drive. You go from the stereotypical Hawaii beaches in Kona, go through some rolling hills like in Wyoming, go through the old volcano fields (where it can get COLD that time of year) an almost rainforest feel and than the rainy side of Hilo. The black sand beaches are cool to see because it’s so unique, but it also just kind of looks like dirt. Volcano National Park would be a must. And if you can get someone to take you, the less known green sand beach is really cool (you can’t get to it if you don’t have an suv or atv though.) I always liked the Kona Brewing Company there. A TON of options you can’t get on the mainland, and the food is actually good.

Maui sucks and is overrated. Lahaina is good, so I hope you’re staying there. Everyone says the Road to Hana, which is cool, but kind of was a take it or leave it thing for me. You should be there for prime whale watching season, though, so you should do that. I suggest the Pacific Whale Foundation, but you probably can’t go wrong with any option. Fresh Fish Market in Lahaina has good food and Da Kitchen in Kahalui probably has the most authentic Kalua pig you’ll find that hasn’t been made by an actual Hawaiian in a ground pit.

On Oahu, Honolulu blows. Don’t waste your time trying to find stuff to do there. Stay away. The North Shore and Sunset Beach is, in my opinion, the best beach in Hawaii. It’s where all of the international surf tournaments are. You’ll probably be too late to catch any, but the waves will probably still be big enough that you’ll be able to check out some really awesome surfing. And while you’re on the North Shore, you can check out Haleiwa as well.

Pearl Harbor is obviously cool and humbling, so I wouldn’t not suggest it, it all just depends on what you want to get out of your one day in Oahu.

The USS Arizona memorial is currently closed for repairs, but they have a projected opening date of sometime in March. I hope it's open for your visit.

I've never been to Hawaii, but really want to visit Hawaii Volcanoes National Park... just thought I would throw that out there as a suggestion.

Yeah the Volcano was one of our prime reasons to do the Big Island. My main regret from the last trip was not seeing the Green Sand beach(there are only 2 or 3 in the entire world) and am planning on doing that. Pretty sure you can hike to it and we are more than fit enough to do that.

We love to swim and snorkel so that will be a primary activity as well as some hiking trips(hopefully we can find some good lava tubes).

We were just on the Big Island the week in January during the polar vortex in Iowa.

We stayed in Hilo, which is completely different than the Kona side.

If driving from Kona, be prepared it will take a decent amount of time to get to the Volcano from Kona. While it isn't a lot of miles, you are driving on two-lane winding roads. It is absolutely beautiful scenery. You can easily spend a day at Volcano National Park if you like to hike and explore. In Hilo, there are beautiful water falls at Akaka Falls and Rainbow Falls. Hilo is a completely different vibe than Kona, but worth the trip.

On Oahu, as others have said Pearl Harbor is a must. Otherwise, I would skip the rest.

In Maui, there is the road to Hana, which is an entire day, or you can bike down the mountain.

Enjoy your trip, it's a wonderful place!
