Is there any chance that the Tigers show up to play today? They seem to have cashed it in a long time ago and I don't think anyone on that team will be ready for to play today. It's too bad for the Twins but at least the Twins will have a shot to beat the White Sox if it comes down to that.

If they do have to play on Tuesday where will that game be?

If the Sox win today, it's Blackburn versus Danks at the Cell (thank God).

No question, there's enough pricks on the Tigers that they'll get up for the game.....but will Freddy?

Re: White Sox vs. Detriot

game will be in chicago. As for cashing in...paul konerko had a good quote about that whole deal. something like "if i was detroit and i thought my season was over, and all of a sudden i had to get on a plane to go play another game....I'd wanna make them pay."

Leland won't let anyone half-a** this one. And don't forget, Garcia was spurned by the Sox not long ago so he'll have a chip on his shoulder as well. Plus he's pitching for roster spot next year.

Re: White Sox vs. Detriot

The coin flip scenario sucks. Minnesota sucks on the road and will be at a huge disadvantage. I believe Minnesota won the season series between the two. That should be the decisive factor in who gets to host the tie-breaker. Just another example of MLB sucking balls.

Overall I am not a fan of the coin flip. Baseball is a game about stats and you can easily choose six stats to compare in a situation like this to determine where the game is played.

Overall Record
Record in the Division
Record vs the AL
Record vs the NL
Best record in the second half of the season
Best road record
Coin flip

If all six of those catagories were tied a coin flip shouldn't matter.

Re: White Sox vs. Detriot

Actually, I don't even know why they have an extra game versus a tiebreak as in other sports. Part of me thinks it is good though.

He wasn't spurned by the Sox.....they were one of the first to work him out. Trust me, there's no ill between him and the organization.

It was done before the series...they have to let teams know in advance. If you want to talk about MLB sucking balls, the best example is letting the Cubs make up road games in Milwaukee, while the Sox are not afforded the same opportunity. So, instead, we've got this game today.

Overall record is moot, otherwise they wouldn't be tied except in this scenario:

It amazes me how many people can't spell Detroit.

Anywho, the Tigers are the one team Gavin's been pretty solid against. 3.45 career ERA against. 3.33 ERA in day games in his career.

However, this is, by far, the biggest game of his life.

He's also winless with a little over a 7.00 ERA on 3 days rest.

I know Leland is a great baseball guy and one fiery SOB, but I don't see Detroit caring one bit about this game. They're team is filled with softies. The Garcia pick baffles me as well.

I think it would only be fitting for the Twins and Sox to play a division deciding game tomorrow with the way their seasons have gone.

Sorry, I'll whisper.

I worry sometimes that our pitchers aren't mentally strong enough, but Gavin is starting to resist that this year.

I'm never worried about Buehrle or Danks. Javy, on the other hand....if we win today and tomorrow, I hope he's done starting unless we happen to be up 3-0 in a series. I really think Clayton Richard is a better option at this point.

The Tigers also got to him pretty good in his last start against them back in Aug. Unfortunately, much of the damage was done by Renteria and Polanco who are both out with injuries. At least one of the replacements, Raburn, also has put up good numbers against Floyd.
