It's been rumored that he sees being a college OC as a better path to a head job than being an NFL position guy. He had to try it out and see how it suited him.
Everyone here is talking about him as the OC, but what I remember most is that he was a nationally-recognized, award-winning offensive line coach. That's what makes me happiest, if his return is indeed happening.

I thought he had some health stuff and that head coach and college was too hard on him.
Welcome back Coach! Sometimes it's good to expand your skills/knowledge and return like the prodigal son. Don't expect a fatted calf though...Hickory Park will have to suffice.
Indianapolis water just doesn't compare well to Ames water.
I wonder how they'll shuffle the assistants around. Myers stay as OL coach or give that back to Manning? Maybe Manning will be TE coach? But then where does Golesh go? Does Veidt stay assistant head coach or does Manning take that role?

As of now, I'd say I'm 99 percent sure this is happening. Got a great source all but confirming to me. Sounds like the only thing left is putting ink on paper.
DOn't believe the staff has been finalized for next year (who is coaching who) yet. Sounds like that might happen over the weekend.

Tom Manning is a great coach and OC. We are quite lucky to have him back. Welcome back Coach!
