All Iowa Football Team---Post Bowl Edition

You guys will be fine. I doubt the DL will be as good as this year, but when was the last time you had a subpar DL outside of 2010?

2010 starting DL was one of the best Iowa ever had. Problem was, they had zero depth and would wear down in the 4th quarter as they never came off the field. 2010 DL had Clayborn, Klug, Binns and Ballard.

How many scholarship DL do you guys even have now? I feel like you guys just lost a ton and didn't really replace any of them

Not sure the actual answer, but I'm very high on Eppy, Rieff, Lattimore and Golston. After that you got guys like Shannon, Waggoner and Duwa.

Would be big if they land that Rice DT transfer.

I have no idea how many they have, but landing that Rice transfer will be huge if they can get him. Have got to think they can sell him playing time.

Who's the Rice transfer? They should be able to sell DL playing time to about any warm body at this point

Ah yes. Still think they'll be fine. Not outstanding as in this past season, but I wouldn't start panicking.

Lol, so there are varying levels of blown coverage now? If a blown coverage results in a TD, there is no difference.

Long passes to Milton and Akers - OSU rushes 5 and Purdy has 3 sec. before throwing the ball. TD to Jones - The defender playing man on Jones is in a bind - ISU runs a quick swing/screen action to Nwangu with Jones faking the block. The defender has to read and support as to not leave a LB in space one on one with a RB. I'm not saying those three plays were good coverage, but in all of those cases the DBs are put in some sort of bind through either the OL holding up longer than they had typically vs. 5 man rush or with the action and situation as happened on the Jones TD.

What happened on Easley's TD is inexplicable and completely inexcusable. Short of just laying on the field at the snap, it couldn't have been played any worse, especially considering the situation that I outlined earlier. MSU's front 7 was manhandling Iowa's running game, so no reason to be aggressive in run support, especially given their coverage call at the time. And even if you ask your DBs to be aggressive in run support, in that situation DB needs to be pass first, read & react on run and you better be damn sure. To top it off, on the snap the typical 7th grade pass reads happen - OL in classic pass protect action and TE firing off the line in a route. Even if the half-assed play fake turned into a draw, you don't ever guess on that as a DB. But hell, he's beat by the time the play fake even happens.

I'm not trying to claim MSU's defense isn't good, because it clearly is. And I'm not in the Stanley sucks camp, as I even commented on here after the Wyoming game last year when Iowa fans were wringing their hands about Stanley that he did good things that suggested to me he as going to be fine. But that play was a complete WTF are you doing moment.

Was Akers and Milton's really blown coverage? Akers is really fast and Milton made a sick move to get open. When I think of blown coverage I think of nobody even close to you but I'm curious your opinion on it
Like the awful over throw of the wide open rcvd fatty had in the psu game?

Nope, just follow a few DMR reporters that retweet Iowa State stuff on occasion, as well as friends who have the misfortune of being Iowa State fans that do the same.
So don’t watch much. You don’t watch highlights. Yet you have a command of Purdy. Crazy.
