Wigginton

To be fair, I think its tough to come back from a foot injury. Give him time

I'm not giving up on him, but I am sick of people acting like he should be starting and playing 35 minutes. Honestly, his poor play was a major reason we lost today. Way more than some bad coaching. He just continually drove in there and fell down and missed shots. He rarely looks for his teammates. And I'm not convinced he is not a cancer in the locker room.

He made a great pass to Babb for the dagger 3. Just didn’t go in.

Yes, and every other player almost made some great plays. At some point he has to make them.

It obviously seems like I'm giving up on him, and I'm really not. I'm sure I'll be eating my words next week :) But I am sick of people acting like he is the end all be all of this team. We played excellent last Saturday. How many minutes did Wigs get? Not that ******* many.

Oh please. If he wants to play more, be better.

Yup. His outside shot appears to be coming back but this team has more offensive firepower than last year's team when he had to take on more of the offensive scoring. He needs to put more faith in the other players when they are open, such as the last shot he took with plenty of time on the clock to pass to an open Haliburton. Haliburton also needs to be waving his arms when he's that open. Better decision making and assists are the parts of his game he needed to improve on for the NBA.

Last year he was the best player on a bad team.

Frankly he cost us the game today. It’s on him.

I’m sick of Chris Williams saying he should start.
And I'm sick of players going bonzo when we lose. To say the loss today was on LW is ludicrous. Did he play well? No. Did he play better? Somewhat. Did he cause us to lose the game, No.

But I really did like what i saw in GWIV.

Wigginton said he came back to prove he is a winner. My guess is the NBA had there doubts. He is an athletic freak, but he has to play better. For a quick, physical guy, his defense sure does lack. I don’t remember it being this bad last year.

I’d have to go back and look at that play, but no idea why he didn’t have help in position to stop the drive

I have a theory on why he loses his balance: He routinely drives directly under the wingspan of 2 or 3 taller defenders that he pinballs off of before throwing a wild ass shot towards the general vicinity of the rim.

The tape is out on Wigg.....most coaches know how to handle him by now. He needs a Len Berman soundtrack...."rumbln', bumbln', stumbln'!!!!!!" I do think some of those shots toward the general vicinity of the rim would go in, but they just hit the palms of some of those opposing defenders.
But, hey, we beat Kansas......or did Self lose to us on purpose.....hmmmmm?
On a totally unrelated note, Chinese media is reporting that they do not find any traces of American presence on the moon from their orbiting craft. That's not boring.

Missing the FT at the end was a fail, but LW did more than anyone else at the end to put the team in a position to win. Coaches need to find some way to push the pace, this team isn't good at playing KSU type ball.

05:31 Lindell Wigginton misses two point layup
05:29 George Conditt IV offensive rebound
05:26 George Conditt IV makes two point dunk 48-53
05:05 Marial Shayok makes two point layup (Lindell Wigginton assists) 48-55
04:07 Cyclones turnover (shot clock violation)
03:41 Xavier Sneed blocks Marial Shayok's two point layup
03:24 George Conditt IV misses regular free throw 1 of 1
02:42 George Conditt IV makes two point layup (Lindell Wigginton assists) 52-57
01:43 Nick Weiler-Babb misses three point jump shot
00:42 Nick Weiler-Babb misses three point jump shot
00:15 Lindell Wigginton misses regular free throw 1 of 1

Hope thats the case. I keep thinking he’ll put it all together soon. Even in the KU game, when he would make a good play, he never smiled when teammates congratulated him, etc. He seems like one frustrated dude. And just like the varying opinions on here, I do not envy Prohm’s deciding how much or what role to get him back to the level where we need him. Just hope we’re not having this same discussion in Feb/March

Wiggs is not playing to his full potential at the moment. He would be the first to tell you that. IMO, he forçes the situation too often and does not exert the same effort on the defensive end as he does at the offensive end. However, giving up on him is not the answer. ISU needs him to be at his best in order to make it past the first weekend of the NCAA tournament.

He also made an amazing wrap around pass to Halliburton for a wide open corner 3 too that also didn't go in.

But make no mistake about it, he didn't play well at all and I'm sure he knows it. I think he's still trying to get back up to speed and find his fit with this team's chemistry. It will happen, just hopefully sooner rather than later.

He is in a slump. It happens. He will figure it out. For anyone that says we don’t need him or the other players should be taking his minutes , you are absolutely wrong. This kid is by far the most talented on this roster. He can create his own shot, shoot from anywhere, and makes other players around him look good. It is not showing right now, but he will come around.

I think that’s a very fair statement.

Wigginton looked like that last year too. Just his shots went in.
Did they? He shot 39% in conference play last year, and despite making open 3Ps he had a low effective FG% because of those wild shots.

He’s in a a career long slump that comes with not knowing how to play efficiently. You’re as good as your best players, and he had low ratings and PER last year on a high usage percentage. He’s a great prospect and makes highlight plays, but he’s not yet good at making others better, and certainly not yet the kind of player immune to losing minutes. Our best performances have come without him.
