I guess Iowa's collapse will start in March this year...

Then it is probably best to stay more relaxed at games. If you practice one way and then go totally off the deep end during games, it does confuse young players. The older I get the more I understand how the calmer approach is a better approach. Rhoads would get all wound up all the time. Campbell will has a few cut loose times, but is generally calm on the sidelines (outside celebrating big plays with his players which I think is always acceptable). Prohm is a little more lively than Fred but I don't think anyone is calmer than Fred period.
That's fair

Another piss poor effort on the road in conference play. .500 in conference probably gets them in the tournament, but not sure they get there. Have dug themselves a deep hole plus the Big 10 is very deep this year.

That he's this ranting, high strung lunatic behind the scenes.

My uncle is a longtime Iowa HS coach (big state fan :)) and has been to a couple Iowa practices....last one was 4 or 5 years ago. Pretty rare but that's what he passed on to me. He was pretty surprised by how low key Fran was in practice. He also got feedback from the family of one of the players that he knows.

Anyway, take it for what it's worth.....

Just saying, if Fran was this in your face coach that berates players I think we'd see a lot more turnover.

So basically he is nice to his terrific players but a jerk to everyone else. That makes sense

Not even remotely close to what I posted.

Have a nice day.

I've seen him scream at his players a lot and his players don't transfer because he plays them all. Hell he played a former walk on and a current walk on last night in the first half!

"I don't know how it would have affected this matchup, it's just that we're better with him. We need him. He's close to 75 percent. He practiced last night and he was not ready. We only warmed him up so he could get a little bit of movement but had no intention of playing him. I'm not going to put him out there if he's not ready to go. Hopefully, he'll be ready for Sunday. If not, we'll just go game by game. He's really diligent with his rehab and he'll be ready soon."

After game last night. This is unbelievable.

Wasn't Pencilhead available?

So what we see is strictly saved for public consumption, because...........

that is some pretty in your face berating. And I cannot imagine he is mild mannered Clarke Kent in practice.

I guess i could see that but I'm not sure....I know that's the "mad Fran" perception but by all accounts he's pretty laid back in practice....his players like him. Not a whole lot of turnover/transfers. When there are transfers it's usually PT related....
Playing time is the key here. Fran's rotation are so horrible, every player is getting 10+ minutes per game.
These guys can't transfer to another P5 school and get those minutes so there's no reason to transfer.

Guys leaving the program seems to have such a bad stigma, but if a guy is a sophomore or junior and is still 8, 9, 10 on the bench, it's best for both parties if he finds another school. He probably gets more playing time and it frees up a scholly.

I can believe what you said. In practice Fran is in total control, he can stop/start when he wants and make corrections to what he wants when he wants. Score isn't kept so its not as critical if a poor pass against a press is made, you stop and explain the issue and how to correct it. If the guys listen, then I could see him staying calmer.

To me its seems that Fran has excessive competitive issues then. Being competitive is fine, but there is a line that if you let emotions get involved in the competitive side (take things personally) then you lose ability to rationally control things.

I know you won't believe this and I found it hard to believe but apparently....he doesn't yell much at practice or behind the scenes. Like I said....lots of misconceptions about Fran.

You can have a calm demeanor and still be an insufferable douchebag. I think his players stick with the program because:

a) They're also insufferable douchebags
b) They're insufferable douchebag hawks 4 life

Saw a prediction today for Iowa 5-15 in conference play. After tonight, that seems about right.

http://warrennolan.com/basketball/2019/team-predict-schedule?team=Iowa

Holy Crap; if they finish 5-15 in conf, it would be one epic collapse. A few others I recall:

+ TCU was 13-0 nonconf and won only 4 conf games a few years back.
+ Wasn't UT was 17-0 #2 in 2010 and fininshed 24-10 losing to an 8-seed
+ of course the Iowa 2015 meltdown was memorable.
+ Didn't AZ State go from #3, beating KU, to not making the tourney a couple years ago ??

2015 was also memorable due to this epic rant by Ross Peterson.

This is actually even more funny now since he makes some football comments in there too.
