Nate Stanley to return for senior year

I actually like what they did with him this year. He was in on obvious passing downs along with his rotation snaps. He was definitely fresh and a beast in the pass rush. Obviously he'll be on the field more next year...Hesse is gone and if Nelson leaves early he'll be out there a ton....if Nelson comes back I'd see a Golston/Nelson/AJ rotation at DE but regardless...he'll get more snaps.

Some folks are arguing he should be out there every snap but that ends up being counter productive in the 4th Qtr in todays game. In 2010 Binns, Clayborn etc were out there way too much and really wore down.. I think Parker has made a concerted effort to develop a rotation to keep guys fresh. Pretty standard nowadays...we'll see.

Yeah, We will rotate Lima and Bailey out. With Enyi getting a crappy targeting call and tossed in the bowl, we had Bailey out there a little more than we probably should and definitely more than normal. You could tell he was getting a little more tired than he usually does. Harvey was also a monster loss, that was our best LB to send and would really mess things up on the rush. In the second half we actually went to a two man rush and dropped Bailey back to spy on Minshew. Having either of the ejected guys would have been huge in that part.

Yep, Hesse was still rock solid as always and Epenesa would come in for obvious pass rushing downs and play entire other series when Hesse needed a breather.
Second half of the season there were games AJ had more snaps than Parker.....it worked out well regardless.

I was impressed how well the Clones D played after the ejections. Brought pressure at the right times....very good defensive performance against WSU.

This is probably the best answer (most logical) to the question of why he doesn't play more snaps.

You see even the elite of the elite pass rushers (See: Mack) lose effectiveness as snap counts go up. Best strategy is to use them when it counts; on obvious passing downs. Especially when your team has the luxury of above average (or better, settle down trolls...) replacement talent.

Think we figured out in the second half that Minshew didnt want to go outside to run, he wanted to go straight upfield. With a spy literally standing 2-3 yards off the pass rush and having the two ends work containment, he was only going to throw. When we brought pressure we brought it delayed and straight up and that was going right into where he would run

Well duh. The guy is a stud, of course there's a chance he enters the draft. Silly.

I heard just recently he was planning on coming back but that apparently has changed and he's torn now. He knows he can make more money staying another year but that means he has to spend another year in Iowa City so he is truly 50/50 it appears now

Not surprising. He's a beast coming from a proven NFL factory. Obviously if this is the same source who told you how much James Daniels hates Iowa there's a big grain of salt with this one. But Nelson would be crazy not to consider it.

It's not the same source. Nelson leaving combined with Stanley returning is brutal for you guys

Whoa. Just heard Nelson coming back isn't a done deal. He really dislikes it in IC and is going to see if he can get a draft grade now. WHOA

Man, it has been entertaining to see how you handled bowl season. First trolling attendance figures to help ease the pain of Iowa winning and now this route. What's next? Ames has better water than Iowa City smack talk?

What route am I going? Losing Hooker would be the biggest loss for you but obviously losing Nelson and returning Stanley isn't good
