Yeah we were. Stanley is a good guy, but really limited in his ability. He can not be blitzed or he freaks out. Come to think of it the only Iowa QBs that could handle the blitz were Tate and Banks in the Ferentz era. I am hoping, waiting for BF to get his QB and get something going, but I am not sure Kirk is going to let that happen.

I figured he would go if he got the Mackey, which he did.
Stanley will probably go down as an abberation. I don't have him in my top five of QBs I've seen play for Iowa. That would be Chuck Long, Drew Tate, Brad Banks, Ricky Stanzi and Chuck Hartlieb.
In a way in that they both have big arms, but I've never seen a QB miss more wide open receivers down field than Stanley has in his career. I kept waiting for him to improve in that regard, but he just hasn't been able to develop that touch. Stanley is maddening cause he has the ability and has shown a lot of flashes, but I don't think it will ever fully turn on for him. I don't think he is bad, but he is far from great.
Why do you think that Hockenson going pro hinged on winning an award? That doesn’t make any sense to me.

I have a friend that knows the family and he told me that winning the Mackey was a huge goal for him. I could have seen him coming back next year to try to win it, if he didn't win it this year. Once he won it this year, I figured that was the tipping point.
Fun fact. The dumb arguing about Iowa beating out Michigan is true, with another recruit. Maimen had offers from them.

ISU beat out Michigan, Michigan State, ND, Nebraska, Ole Miss, Tennessee, Mississippi State, etc just at our RB position alone
The arguing never had anything to do with this recruit: Miamen.
The "dumb" part is because benji said Iowa held off Michigan (who never offered) for a recruit (Goodson). Numerous other Iowa posters on here basically said the same thing.
It was a stupid post by benji and other Hawks bought it as well.
Recent article on rivals indicated that Harbaugh paid him a visit to see how interested he was after Michigan had a decommitment at the RB position, to which he listened and said he was committed to Iowa. Take what you will from that but to me that sounds like he would have gotten an offer if he was interested.
Iowa also recruited those RBs, but they liked Goodson as their top choice as they only wanted 1 RB for the class at the time, but with attrition, they are now looking for a RB. which is why they pulled the offer to your 4*
If they really pulled an offer to Jirehl Brock Ferentz is dumber than I thought. He's an elite level talent
