Why didn't the Big 4 Classic work?

That is shortsighted as hell. Thankfully you aren't in charge of marketing.

It really isn't that much of a stretch to believe there are people willing to pay $75 for a chance to watch ISU live on the lower level, is it? They aren't going to get that opportunity at Hilton unless they happen to know someone.

We can cater to the Des Moines market without benefiting the other D1 programs.

You are upset that it's ending. It's unfortunate for those that enjoyed it. I care far less than my time spent in this thread would indicate.

That said, this is my last post on the subject. Good riddance stupid event that involves forced cohabitation with Hawk fans! I wish UNI and Drake the best moving forward.

Completely disagree, its a huge convenience factor if you live in Des Moines. The same with concerts now being at Wells Fargo instead of Hilton.

To each their own, but I'll take the 30 minute drive to watch at a real basketball arena for 1/2 the cost over staying in Des Moines and paying an inflated price to sit a mile from the action.

For those saying Wells isn’t a good basketball venue, I don’t agree. The problem has been mentioned many times. Not many give a rip about the game their team isn’t playing.

When Iowa State played Creighton a few years back, the atmosphere was amazing.

I also remember the game against Ohio State at the Well being a blast. Again, playing at the Well is doable, but you need an intriguing game.

I live south of Des Moines. 20 minutes to the Well, an hour to Ames. And I can tell you it would never cross my mind that this is "my chance to watch Iowa State" because they are coming to Des Moines. It's a damn hour to Ames.

Good for you, but I can tell you that for me and some of my ISU friends that live and work in Des Moines that its a fun event for the city.

So, when you played a 4th place Missouri Valley team in the Well at that point it was great but two Missouri Valley teams that you actually have history with, one of which consistently finishes 4th or higher, and it sucks?

Little revisionist history going on here...

So if you lived close to Hilton or on campus would you rather drive all the way down to Des Moines or simply go to a game that takes you 3 minutes to get to?

We only went once due to a bad experience with drunk Iowa fans who sat in front of us. I imagine it happens in the other direction as well. There was an elderly couple in front of us, and the fans kept dropping the "F" bomb. My wife asked them to watch their language, and it escalated to the point of one of them telling me to "control my wife." That didn't go over well with her.

Living in Iowa involves forced cohabitation with TOE fans

I already said my piece on this subject so Im done, but you guys from the boonies can whine and moan all weekend about this.

Im excited for some basketball tomorrow and will be there for the 6th straight year supporting my team.

Depends. Is it a ***** game? Is the price twice as much as it should be to watch said ***** game?

The event demonstrated a lot of ISU fans were supporting this game because it came to DSM. I attended most years and I"d say the last few years 60% or more were easily Cyclone fans.

Additionally, the comments on this forum from season tickets holders is almost unanimous that they didn't like this event....so it is only reasonable to assume it was attracting another fraction of the fanbase.

I doubt if Sad Gary or Mad Fran expected the event to be so dominated by Cyclone fans. I suspect that they thought they could consolidate their Metro fan base and "own" the event, but nope. It is a Cyclone State, especially when it comes to basketball fans.

I live a half hour closer to Des Moines than Ames and I would rather we not play in Des Moines and have an extra game in Hilton. Believe it or not but as an Iowa State fan I like Hilton and would rather sit at a game there.

Bull****. Anyone can get tickets for the break games in the lower level for $20 in Hilton.
