First 8 team locations were announced today:

NY/NJ (Hitmen?) - MetLife Stadium
Dallas/Arlington - Globe Life Park (New Ranger's park?)
Houston - UH's TDECU Stadium
Los Angeles (Xtreme?) - StubHub Center
St. Louis - Dome at America's Center
Seattle - CenturyLink Field
Tampa Bay - Raymond James Stadium
Washington - Audi Field

Only two repeat cities from last time - NY/NJ and LA.

It can't fail as spectacularly as it did last time, did it? lol Anyone that hasn't seen that 30 for 30 on the orginal XFL, you should. It was great.

I just don’t understand what Vince McMahon is thinking by bringing this back. It was a failure the first time and football seems to be trending downward as the years have gone by with all the concussion and brain issues football has. I can’t imagine this being a success.

The XFL was a predictable failure in a career of unimaginable success. I think that continues to bother him to this day, and when billionaires have money to spend and a whole buch of other millionaires want to spend their money as well, that's when you end up with things like the XFL.

I think it's kind of funny how one of the big criticism topics the first time around was how they rushed the product and didn't take their time to set everything up properly. This time they are taking more time and trying to do things to succeed this time, only to be beat by the Alliance of American Football league that is scheduled to kick off this coming February.

First, none of the XFL cities overlap with the AAF cities (which seems to have gone for "smaller" markets, except for maybe Atlanta, Phoenix, and San Antonio).

Second, it probably explains why the XFL didn't go for Atlanta, Orlando, Birmingham, and Memphis (three of which are original XFL cities and the fourth being essentially the media center of the SE USA).

In order for the XFL to succeed, they need to cater to their target audiences a little better and be more fiscally savvy.

Have teams play in the parking lots of closed KMarts in cities like Rockford IL, West Memphis AR, East St Louis IL, Jackson MS, Iowa City IA

Can't possibly fail as bad as the first time but it won't succeed. I'm just hoping it flails around long enough to keep Vinnie Mac away from the WWE so it can improve. The card on my network account expired recently and I don't care enough to update it.

Ames has a closed K-Mart and it's right by Movies 12 so they'd get decent numbers. Not ticket sale type numbers but people turning their heads and laughing on their way into a movie.

I guess my fascination about this isn't because I expect Vince McMahon to put out a high quality, successful football product. I'm fully expecting this to be disaster 2.0, and for me it's akin to watching a train wreck happening. But if this ends up defying all expectations and it does succeed, hey - more football.

I'm actually excited for the AAF.

I don't disagree that the markets and locations matter for the success.

I'm referencing more of the timeline for AAF beating the XFL to the punch for exposure and league start. If I recall correctly, there were a lot of similarities both leagues were touting to draw people in. Not to mention maybe the most important piece - the "talent". Would think they would be going at the same bracket of fringe players that couldn't or haven't made it to the NFL.

I hadn't payed much attention to the AAF so I just did a little research.

This is genius! They have a former GM (Bill Polian) and retired players (Troy Polamalu, Hines Ward, Justin Tuck, Jared Allen) running it. Then they have legit former head coaches like Mike Riley, Steve Spurrier, Mike Martz, Brad Childress, Mike Singletary). Smart locations without pro teams (except Atlanta).

Great rules too. No TV timeouts. No PAT kicks, must go for two! No games will end in a tie.

Super Bowl 53 is February 3. AAF starts February 9. Don't compete with the big boys. Smart.

Is there a thread on the AAF? Since this is a XFL thread I don't want to post too much about a different "league" in here.

There are people out there who believe the AAF and XFL are shared efforts and the plan all along is to merge at some point with a great deal of fan fare and publicity. Being separate leagues at this point permits access to more markets and capital as not everyone is willing to lend credibility to, or give Vince McMahon investment money on his endeavor. The AAF would have no large pool of fan interest or entertainment TV infrastructure that McMahon can provide.

**** Ebersol and VInce McMahon are long time buddies, the idea that they would start rival leagues at the exact same time is hard to believe.

Wasn't this supposed to be the appeal of the first XFL, maybe not those specific rules, but basically different rules than the NFL?

Interesting, hadn't heard that angle before.

It seemed like the original XFL was more about a "bad boy" image. Seeing the former NFL names associated with the AAF I figured they were looking to be a little more legit, and a little less WWE-like.

I live just east of Beverly Hills...closed KMart across the street from fanciest mall in the country. It's everywhere.

Somehow that KMart was even more disgusting and ghetto than the ones I visited in actual ghetto areas. The smell and the filth...it was impressive in a way because I don't know how it was even possible. Half of it was in a low ceiling basement that made me want to end my life under the florescent lights.
