Graham Couch: Iowa Basketball is a mid-major roster

Isu has more talent and is playing better right now.. that doesn’t mean isu will win..

Jobo hasn’t shot well so far and if he starts hitting bunch of 3’s Thursday could be long night..

I think key will be staying out of foul trouble especially with Jacobsen and being patient on offense taking good shots.

If our staff scouts Iowa well they will know that Cook struggles going to his right and loves going to his left and spinning to his left.

Zero reason to defend Cook outside 10 feet

Nebraska is a high profile Big Ten squad, hard to get minutes there.

Roy Marble tried to funnel Monte towards Iowa but Fran said no, and I quote, because "he was comfortable with who he had" in regards to Clemmons and Gesell. Seriously
Wow, i knew there was a relationship there (between Marble and Monte) but don't know how I hadn't heart that little nugget before haha. That's gold.

Basketball thread. Staying on topic > shifting argument

If you want to change topics how about we discuss the Iowa athletic department. Cool?

Looked it up out of curiosity....Gesell played one season overseas.

By Hok logic, since an NIT runner up is exciting compared to a 2nd round NCAA tourney appearance, one season overseas is likely better than making some noise in the NBA. He probably averaged more points/minutes than Monte or something.

No Weiskamp would be big for Iowa, he would have been a pretty good match up with our wings. Bummer if he's out, hope its not serious.

I'll be really interested to see who matches up with Cook. I imagine Shayok will try early on, I'd like to see Talley get a shot, physically he seems like a good match up. Cook is athletic but he literally has two moves, hesitation dribble to blow by you for the Dunk/foul and post up spin move TO THE PAINT EVERY SINGLE TIME, especially if he's posted on the right side of the lane! Never goes baseline. He's very limited skill wise. Just have to negate his athleticism, maybe ask Solo for some tips.

i think i saw him go baseline on that move once last night, and it was rejected (could be thinking of a different play though)

When have we played against a zone?

In Maui, don’t remember which game(s). We may have figured it out in the end, but I remember a lot of throwing it around the 3 pt line, at least at first.

I’d certainly play zone against ISU and make them try to beat you from the 3 pt line.

I'm just saying that I thought he would be closer to Brase than what he has been so far. Obviously he has been phenomenal so far.

You're either completely overestimating Brase's impact on last year's team or Jacobson's impact his last year at Nebraska if you thought he would close to Brase

Gesell and Woodbury really screwed up Hawkeye basketball in so many ways. Watching our crowd totally intimidate Gesell into missing those 2 late free throws in 2013 was such a proud moment for an ISU fan.
