Graham Couch: Iowa Basketball is a mid-major roster

I think someone in Maui played zone against us for a couple possessions. Until they realized we were beating it.
Watched the Illini game....I was shocked they stuck with man after repeatedly being abused in the isolation game. Don't think they ever went zone....at least from what I saw. Maybe SDSU?

Nothing wrong with being optimistic but Thursday's game won't be easy for we fans or likely the players! Regardless of attendance the Iowa players will be comfortable on their home court and we are a relatively young team at this point learning to play together. I expect a close game...hope for a huge Iowa State win...but expect a close game.

Whatever SDSU did, watch that and do the opposite. They went down easier than North Dakota St at Hilton last night with a 1st round pick on their roster. Probably one of the more shocking results I've seen as an ISU fan, was expecting a close game or a loss and it was a laugher by halftime.

Just look at the number of free throws and fouls Iowa creates...it's a VERY good thing to have ZT and cam back. Iowa vs an 8 man roster this year is going to be tough.

Yep, you guys looked good in Maui that's for sure. Really don't know what to expect Thursday but my confidence meter isn't exactly pegged...

My actual thoughts about the game....

We have a lot of true freshmen playing their first real road game
They've struggled from 3 and going cold against a zone could be a problem
We're all really high on this team, but part of that is because we have great players on the bench and the ceiling when they're at full strength is exciting.

But 1-8 I have a hard time finding many positions, maybe 2, where it's even a debate about who has the better player. ISU is a lot more athletic, talented, and is playing better. If it's at home I'd take ISU -10, on the road I think it's going to come down to the wire and I like our scorers better.

No Weiskamp.

Jorblo with zero assists in two league games.

Strange scenario unfolding here.

No Weiskamp would be big for Iowa, he would have been a pretty good match up with our wings. Bummer if he's out, hope its not serious.

I'll be really interested to see who matches up with Cook. I imagine Shayok will try early on, I'd like to see Talley get a shot, physically he seems like a good match up. Cook is athletic but he literally has two moves, hesitation dribble to blow by you for the Dunk/foul and post up spin move TO THE PAINT EVERY SINGLE TIME, especially if he's posted on the right side of the lane! Never goes baseline. He's very limited skill wise. Just have to negate his athleticism, maybe ask Solo for some tips.
