George H.W. Bush has passed away

Not his biggest political fan but I think he truly believed in what he did. I became a bigger fan of him the longer he was away from office.
He’s with his bride now, and I’m suprised he made it this long without her.

Yeah I don't agree with some things but with stuff like the ADA he may go down as a very underrated president.

He won the Iowa primary in 1980 after front runner Ronald Reagan decided campaigning in Iowa was just a little more work than he was willing to do. That was his first step toward joining the winning ticket, and, of course, eventually to the Presidency.

In '88 he ran on the pledge, "no new taxes". But when it turned out it was the right thing to do, he signed legislation contradicting that. That, in turn, weakened his candidacy in '92 when he lost to "Slick Willy" Clinton. That had to be a bitter pill to swallow, but that generation of people put doing the right thing in front of doing the politically expedient thing.

He was a good man who loved his country. Here is an interesting read about how he luckily escaped capture from the Japanese during WW2. His fellow pilots were tortured and EATEN.

After enlisting in the Navy in 1942, he was sent to flight training at the Naval Air Station adjacent to what is now MSP:

While i find that question interesting as well, I would take posts like these to the cave version of this thread, imo, and let this thread be more specifically about HW.

It's the first time in modern history it's a valid question because it's common. This isn't "take it to the cave", it's American standards falling so far and so fast that things that were never an issue before are now.

My first thought was instantly how the current office holder would insult him, because that's what anyone paying attention to actual events would expect at this point.

Last president to have combat experience - both a statement and a question.

Combat experienced has been effectively turned into something that can be attacked and ridiculed to help win elections and score political points (swiftboating, mocking McCain for being a POW). Voters, even voters who served, lap up attacks against combat vets now.
