Fant is going pro

Oh, idk, maybe honor their scholarship and not sell out on teammates because you are so scared of getting hurt? Seriously, grow up, this exactly what people talk about when they are talking about the snowflake generation.

You think guys 20, even 10 years ago were just deciding not to play when they were perfectly healthy because there is a chance to get hurt? This reminds me of the Noland thread when I called him out, then everyone got all triggered saying he might get hurt so he just quit in the middle of the season.

Quiet down snowflake. Pissing and moaning about young adults deciding not to play in a game. Boo hoo.

Hawkeye fans can go c
ISU Fan is more upset with Fant than all of the other Iowa fans on here.

Literally no one ******* cares about your moral compass, including every single Hawkeye fan in this thread. Congratulations.

You think I give a crap what Hawkeye fans think? My goal isnt to make friends with a bunch of idiot Iowa fans on here either, if you both of you hate me I honestly dont care.

Dear Hawkeye Nation,

First and foremost I want to thank God for his continued blessings - without him no opportunities offered would be possible.

Thank you Hawkeye Nation - I've been blessed to play for the University of Iowa - in Kinnick - in front of the best fans in the nation - who have shown unending love and support.

After multiple discussions with my family, coaches, and a lot of prayer, I have decided to forego the remainder of my eligibility and declare for the 2019 NFL Draft.

Thank you Football and Academic support staff - for pushing me to heights that I never thought were possible. The lessons you've helped me learn will carry with me throughout life, helping me achieve success no matter what I'm doing.

Thank you Coach Ferentz and Coach Doyle, for the opportunity and the honor to represent the black and gold - for helping me grow physically and mentally - more than I thought possible.

Thank you to my position coaches, Coach LeVar Woods and Coach Brian Ferentz, for being instrumental in my development on and off the field.

I am truly grateful for the opportunities that all of you have given me. I know with all of my heart that the University of Iowa was the program meant for me.

Since the very first time I put on a pair of football pads as a child, it was been my dream to play in the NFL. I am very excited for what the future holds and extremely humbled by the amazing opportunity in front of me. I will always bleed the black and gold and forever be a Hawkeye.

Thank you Hawkeye Nation! #GoHawks

In my opinion, there are only 2 groups that significantly benefit from non-NY6/playoff bowl games.
1) Coaches/players that are coming back next season significantly benefit from the extra practices.
2) The bowl game organization and their community rake in revenue

3) Name brand programs who benefit by a one or two game playoff structure.

You obviously never played any competitive sports.
Strong statement by someone who has no idea what a 20 year old is thinking about. Ask yourself, and be honest, would you be willing to risk millions of dollars to play an exhibition game? If yes...good for you. If no...good for you. Move on...

For those saying it's a glorified exhibition, wouldn't the players benefit from boosting their stats further and also from the additional exposure of playing in a nationally televised bowl game? I can see why they do it, but especially in bowl games it is a chance to go against new schemes, unknown opponents, etc. I would think that would be worth something.

+ Imagine if all the 1st / 2nd round 'Bama players decided to sit out how that would alter the playoffs.

+ Do you all think this might bleed over into basketball? What if the DOOK players sat out the NCAA tourney?

I don't know what I'd do personally. What I can tell you is a majority of first round picks dont sit out, so there is stronger evidence to backup my opinion than the rest of you guys that disagree with me.

You think the NFL drafts off of stats?

I'd also add in players who aren't going to be going pro (Which is 99% of players). For them it is one more chance to play and to do it in a cool environment. And while the injury risk is there just like for the guys about to go pro for them they aren't risking millions of dollars if they break a leg or tear an ACL.

I bet a lot of Bama players would sit out if they weren't in the playoffs every year.

Not even close to the same injury risk playing basketball as there is in football.

I don’t blame anyone for looking out for their best financial interest. I do selfishly wish they all played because I want to watch the best players in bowl games, but it’s their decision.

Where will this go next? Will someone skip a national championship game at some point? Will someone skip the last 4 games of the regular season once they know they are a first round pick?

I also think if they skip games they should have to pay back their scholarship - use the money to give another student free tuition that semester that had a negative life event happen to them recently.

If Fant liked KF and was happy in IC he would probably be playing FWIW. His plan was to always declare after the bowl game going into this year but that changed with how he was utlitized

Maybe, but it’s probably a cost-benefit analysis. For some players, their stock probably won’t go up much no matter what they do. Some might really improve their draft stock by playing in the bowl game. I think it depends on the individual player and I don’t think there’s a rule that you can apply to everyone.
