L J Needs Our Support!

I agree with 33, and some here need to lighten up. Here's an 18 year old kid, good grades, keeps out of trouble, polite. Someone we would all be proud to have as a brother or son. He's asked to throw himself all over the field, make tackles (and don't miss a tackle) and he screws up with a late hit. Let's see...
-he's chewed out by two coaches on TV
-lambasted over and over again by TV announcers (over the top if you ask me)
-kicked out of the game
-suspended for first conference game
-was seen in tears on the field for his mistake
WHAT MORE DO YOU GUYS WANT FROM THIS KID?

Firstly, it was two late hits in the same series.

Secondly, I want him to stop making stupid mistakes that cost his team and I want him to be a positive ambassador for ISU on the playing field.

Unfortunately, he hasn't seemed to be able to do either of those things so far.

So your saying anything he has done positive doesn't count? All the tackles he made, the run backs, doing whatever is asked of him in practice, keeping his grades up, patting his teammates on the back....all the good counts zero to you? I've done a lot of coaching in a number of sports. I just hope you never do with that attitude. The positives also count in my book.
 
Fine the postives count, and that will have an impact.

However, right now, he needs to make sure he adjusts his play. All of his postives are taking a beating with these hits.
 
I was wrong on my first post on LJ. I am over that play and look forward to him playing for ISU in 3 weeks.

can anyone else move on?

Let's get this straight:

I didn't say ANY of that.

I'm not a coach either. I'm not here to coach people. I'm here to post my opinion on an internet message board. And unless you're actually a coach on the team, your opinion matters about as much as mine does, because you're doing exactly the same thing that I'm doing, only with some sort of indignant "I'm obviously more qualified to comment since I've coached kids before" attitude.

All the other stuff is clearly important, but what it boils down to is he's got to stop hurting his team ON the field. Some players need to stop hurting their team OFF the field. I'm very happy that LJ doesn't fall into the later category. The fact he falls into the former, however, is reason enough to criticize.

It's not poor play that's (most of) his problem, it's partly poor sportsmanship, and it's partly poor decision making.

Until he cleans that up, I will continue to criticize him. I clearly have every right to do so, and I feel that it's a justified reaction to what is clearly poor decision making on the field.

I hope that threads like these never have to come up about him again. I really do. If he pulls off another couple PFs against Baylor (if he gets the opportunity to do so), I think the team needs to look at sitting him down for a good, long while.
 
can we close this thread now? LJ issued a public apology .... and we must forgive him 77 times.
