Kirk has a pretty extensive history of starting players with inferior talent because he trusts them more to not make mistakes. Doesn’t mean they are better players.
My million dollar question is why Brandon Smith over ISM?
Frankly the way I see it is there is Butler, then there is a big drop-off to everyone else. Gun to head I'd say Milton or ISM. Even though I think Jones is probably the next most "talented" he hasn't really produced.

But if they make more mistakes, doesn't that make them inferior, therefore your so-called 'inferior talent' is actually a superior player?

Not at all, it just makes them more volatile. A player who gives out steady B performances is not necessarily better than a player whose performance fluctuates between an A+ and a C-. Some coaches value the higher ceiling, some coaches (like Kirk) value the higher floor.

In reality the steady B player is better than an inconsistent player. Hence why said players do not start. If you say a A+/C- player is better than a C player, yes. But not a B player.
B grades by definition is above average, but again you and definitions butt heads.
