Odds on who will be next Ku coach ...

What KU needs as coach is ME!! A middle aged man, who is only partially tired and willing to work. Knows football somewhat and hopes to find semi competent assistants. Willing to sign only a 7 year 14MM contract with full buyout. That is cheap today folks. I’m willing to work for KU, or anybody else dumb enough to hire me under those terms.

BTW, my oldest is a senior so I could double their recruits instantly. Is he D1, probably not, but it’s not like all their players are anyhow.

Maybe Gene has some more fishing buddies?

KU wasn’t needing a home-run, they needed a base hit. Miles is that.

Might or might not be. Probably the best KU could do. I think Miles works at a program that has the talent base but not sure starting from scratch. Doesn't have me quaking in my boots as an ISU fan.

My point is his age isn't the issue and KSU fan above all should know that.

You remember OkSt under Bobby Simmons before Miles?

How many years ago was that?
1995-2000. Was Big XII coach of the year in '97 (8-4 record), but that was his lone winning season. Records during his tenure were as follows: 4-8; 5-6; 8-4; 5-6; 5-6; 3-8. Miles went 4-7; 8-5; 9-4; 7-5 before leaving for LSU.

Wut? Kansas is one of the worst teams in the sport and landed a guy who has won a national title. If he gets KU to 6-6 in 2 years, which he will, it was a home run hire. If he gets them above mediocre at any point in his time at Kansas then it was a grand slam hire.

Colleges with a national champion as head coach of both football and basketball are Kansas and .............that's it.

Nick Saban couldn’t get KU to 6-6 within 2 years.

Gene Chizik has a national title.

KU landed an unemployed geriatric. It may be a home run for KU basketball fans, but not to the rest of CFB.

In this case, of all the cases on this docket, I agree with r'44 for once. If Miles gets Ku competitive, wins games against K-State, .500 record, and a bowl game or two, he'll be considered a Ku football legend like Mangino who did just that before getting canned for being an azzhole.

Hiring Miles would be better than hiring Wies in the past but it is still going to be a tough row to hoe (LOL to anyone who thinks they’re going 6-6 in year 2!). KU has little to no structure right now, a senior heavy two-deep, and only 1 commitment late...it is risky whoever they hire since it really is a bottom-of-the-barrel situation. Now if Snyder “retires” again at K-State, that might add a little jump.

The play here is hiring a figurehead with a lot of success so it will rub off on recruiting and stadium upgrades to get enough pieces in play for a good coach to generate some success on the field. You just have to hope they aren’t past their heyday, and then, hope that the inevitable early losses and severe butt-kickings don’t completely suck the rest of that magic out of the coach before their twilight sets and ends.

Sounds like they are trying to pull the emergency lever, but that may be needed at this point.

I get that it's fun to bash KU but your statement is simply foolish. KU is 3-7 right now and should be 4-6 if not for a total crash and burn in their first game. You don't think that going from Beaty to Les Miles will get us 2-3 more wins over the next two seasons? Come on. The roster is a disaster right now. I am quite confident that Miles and staff can upgrade the talent enough to win 2-3 more games two seasons from now.

I think you're drunk. Some dude that was the head coach of TOLEDO improved ISU from a 3 win team to an 8 win team. There will be a significant upgrade of talent coming to Lawrence in the next 2 years.

Les Miles was unemployed because he was getting $133,000 a MONTH until 2023 from LSU to stay unemployed. A bit different than "I am washed up and no one would hire me".

This is a home run hire no matter how you slice it.

I’m not saying he can’t get them to a .500 record, but I would be shocked if he could do it in only 2 years. They will need to win a few conference games, and it seems that KU is a long ways from that.
