All Iowa Football Team---Post Bowl Edition

The only Big Ten QBs that are definitely better than Stanley are Haskins and McSorely.

I would put Stanley in the next group of QBs with Blough, Ramsey, Patterson and a healthy Thorson.

I have never been high on Lewerke and I don't think he is any better than Hornibrook. I think they are solid Big Ten QBs.

Stanley has been outstanding over the last 3 games. From a Hawk Central article:

60 of 90 (66.7% completion) for 879 yards and 8 TD's. That is 9.8 Yards per attempt.

This is why @CyTwins and I agree that Stanley is a future NFL QB.

he's playing well against defenses that everyone plays well against. You see the numbers the Huskers put up on Wisconsin? It's got to be the worst Badger defense in decades right?

I didn't know that.

Lewerke is a stud, he would be crushing it at Wisconsin for instance if he played there. Much, much better QB than Hornibrook, you would agree with that, wouldn't you?

Wisconsin has their system. So I don't think it would make much difference. I don't know the abilities of either that much, may have seen each play once, maybe. Wisconsin wants a qb who doesn't stray or try too much stuff. The little I saw of Lewerke, he would push the envelope on that and probably get benched.

Banks was great, I loved watching him play. He was surrounded by arguable Iowa's best ever Offensive line (that is saying something). He was throwing to a HOF TE, we had a great running backs (the backup was an NFL talent) and really good WR's.

Great team, lots of more talented QB's would have put up much bigger numbers at Iowa with that team than Banks did.

So Banks was a great college football player but not an NFL talent and that makes sense but it's crazy to say Stanley is a mediocre college football player but still has a chance in the NFL?

You're a bigger homer than I thought if you think Stanley is anything better than just an average Big Ten QB

Fair enough, and an actual honest answer is refreshing around here. I mean the "well he is middle of the pack on PFF" is just dumb and played out now.

I might be higher on Lewerke than most it seems. I'm not that impressed with Hornibrook, even though he played well against us this year. He was pretty bad last year against us. I think McSorely/Patterson gets a shot at the NFL but might not have the arm/throwing ability to make it. Haskins looks like an NFL QB, so obviously so does Stanley and Lewerke as well.

What stat would you prefer we use if you don't like PFF? QB Rating?

What don't you get? Banks put up great numbers because he had a great team around him. Put Banks on the 2012 Iowa team, and you don't even know who he is.

When you are talking about who you would prefer on your team, you take the best talent, not the ok talent that put up big numbers because of a team or system he was on.

There isn't one stat that grades the talent of a player. Do you think the NFL is gonna draft QB's in the order of their PFF ranking or QB ratings? LOL, you really try to troll too much.

I don't really see Stanley as an NFL talent or top 3 round draft pick. After 3 rounds it seems things can get odd and nobody can be positive about who goes. He doesn't appear mobile from what I've seen. The move seems to be more for mobility, not many qbs are looked at that can't just take off and do something with their legs. His arm is decent, but the games I've seen, ISU ones and a little here or there while flipping through, his accuracy doesn't appear to be on. Especially with the long ball. He overshot the middle of the field many times in Ames (I can only go off what I see).

Had a real bad overthrow against Wisconsin too. His ability to his open receivers has always been a struggle for him

I would agree with the Stanley and NFL draft position. He will get drafted in round 3-7, and will be like a Stanzi, Ruddock, CJ type that is mostly a backup. He has plus arm strength, but his accuracy and touch needs work. He is just a Jr. so he has some time to develop that yet, and he is already improving from games 1 and 2 and has looked much sharper since.

He has gotten much better on the deep and touch throws. He still needs improvement, but he has gotten a lot better on those.
