Santo up for the hall again

While I really like Ron Santo, it is the Hall of Fame. Not the hall of pretty good guys. I just don't think his stats justify him making it. I have looked several times before and thought, sure, nice career, but Hall of Fame? Really?

As a person, Santo of course is a HOF'r. Great guy, real good broadcaster. I am one of those guys that thinks HOF'rs should be only the truly elite players. I don't think Ron was ever one of those.

Go compare his stats with Brooks Robinson. You may change your tune.

In the era that he played in, he was a truely elite player. By far and above. I also believe they should be elite players and the best players from each team in each decade should not make it. But the best players at one position for over a decade in a league should make it. Ron Santo was the best third baseman while he played in the NL. 9 time all star and 350+ homers

He's a hall of famer, plain and simple

His numbers are pretty good when compared to 3rd basemen in the hall. The guy is a national treasure, both as a player and a broadcaster.

Terrible broadcaster but he should be a HOF third baseman. Best player during his era at his position.

NOW WAIT JUST ONE MINUTE... How can you not love his broadcasting too? I mean... anyone who will yell out "oh for the love of god, I can't believe this!" in the middle of a live broadcast is a genius... I laugh everytime he announces.

You love him when things go well but I can't stand his whining when things are not going well. Stresses me out!!

Ryne Sandberg played in a total of zero world series.

I was saying that where stats are borderline HOF material, World Series are an edge. A tiebreaker, if you will.

Odd that playing all those years in Wrigley, Santo's numbers weren't inflated.

Oh wait--they probably were. And are still borderline HOF. Maybe that's what every HOF voter has been seeing all of these years.

Oh give me a break. Get past your cardinal bias and just look at the stats. Show us some actual literature that says the world series is an edge before you start spewing your cardinal crap.

I will admit that I have no clue as to the answer to this question, but has the Veterans Committee ever elected a former player into the HOF??

Thanks in advance

:biglaugh: Just because it says in my profile that I'm a Cardinal fan, you respond like a prodded Hawk ******,*******...

Edit: Several of my best friends are Cub fans. Get over your prejudices.

So are you a cardinal fan? I mean, if you are, I can see why you wouldn't want to say you are one with the way they are playing.

What's with the ******* comment? I asked for some references with your world series statement? You have anything? Nope, just shooting from the hip, huh? Some people bring facts to the table, while others just making statements without really knowing any factual information.

I'm not going to lower myself to your level by making personal attacks.

Here's a clarifucation for you, Mr. High and Mighty "I didn't say "cardinal crap" as an instigator...

I didn't say you are a *******, I said you were being a *******.

Now, if you don't know that a player with borderline career stats can make it into the HOF because he has several appearances in the World Series, especially starring ones, then I'm writing you off as uneducatable. That's just common sense. If you're just being obstinate, and being picky with wordplay, then you're a loss in the first place.

Frankly, I suspect that it's the latter, since you were asking for literature suggesting that World Series "officially" helped. And that's just being obnoxious, since we all know it isn't true, and HOF admission has no set in stone admission standards in the first place. It's all subjective. If I have somehow misunderstood your original question, I apologize.

So please, feel free to stop being a jackass, including your second sneering shot at the Cardinals (I haven't made a single disparaging comment about either the Cubs OR Santo), and act like a reasonable, adult person--and a fellow Cyclone fan.
