MLB: ***Official 2018 Chicago Cubs Season Thread***

In what seems like the first time in months, the pitcher is back in the 9 hole!

The lack of a true leadoff hitter, I think, has killed us. You saw the spark Murphy provided when he first got here.

We have absolutely no one to set the table.

Hopefully when Harper gets here we can place Machado in the leadoff spot for Bryant and Rizzo to get him in if Harper doesn’t get the job done first

:)

Been thinking this since Fowler left that the offense just hasn't been the same without a true leadoff guy like he was at the time. Maddon used to say "when he goes we go" as Fowler did a good setting the table for the heart of the order. I don't know who is out there either free agency or a trade but would seem like the only spot to put a leadoff hitter with this roster is the OF or possibly 2B if you assume Russell is done with the Cubs.

It's funny, Fowler leaving the Cubs for the Cards made both teams worse

Pirates are playing more like a playoff team so far than the Cubs have in this series. Imagine if the Cubs had not won it all in 2016, they way things have played out since then Maddon probably would be getting canned after this season and Theo and Jed would be shaking up this roster dramatically in the offseason.

If you’re going to strike out a ton, your team should make up for it in homeruns.

Dodgers lead the NL in homeruns and strikeouts.

Cubs are 4th in Ks and 11th in homers
