An "obvious disadvantage" with absolutely zero empirical evidence to support it other than an old coaching addage. Just out of curiosity, if Montgomery and Butler both got hurt Saturday, are we still ahead having played that game?
You act like things happen in a vacuum. There is good and bad that comes from us not playing, and it's impossible to correlate any of it to how we perform Saturday.
Pointing out a POSSIBLE disadvantage is one thing but you are using it as troll bait and it's pretty remarkable how few have even nibbled...
If you don't think losing a whole game of game reps isn't a disadvantage I don't know what to tell you. I assume/hope you're just trying to troll right now
Iowa struggled with mobile QB’s for a few years back in 2009-2013. They don’t seem to as much anymore.
NIU gave up 5 sacks on 31 total drop backs while rarely taking a shot deep. They would not have had time to throw deep, IMO.
It's not troll bait and even the biggest Hawkeye homer on this site who disagrees with everything ISU related agreed ISU is at a disadvantage
Coaching and practice. You will get through it. Wonder how any team makes it through their first game of any season.

I'd ask the same question again-- if we play that game and both Montgomery and Butler get hurt and are out Saturday, would we not have been better off not playing? It's just comical that you think it's as simple as "we didn't play, we are at a disadvantage" as though there are a thousand other variables.

How about you answer this question: Do you think CMC would have rather played week 1 and had the possibility to lose the game or lose players or have the game cancelled and not get game reps for his players? I know the answer and that's why it's a disadvantage to not play week 1
You're more of an anti-Iowa fan than an ISU fan. You didn't even know much about one of your starting offensive linemen. But could name our 3rd string long snapper's mom's maiden name.
@RedBayou I don't think anyone knew much about him going into this season. He had played in two career games before this year and it was mop up duty. I still don't know much about him. Sounds like he's better at run blocking than what we had last year at that position but considering none of us have actually seen him play I have no clue what his strengths and weaknesses are
