Kinnick north end zone renovation

Can you imagine saying Hilton had an electric crowd for that Michigan game (but also had a couple thousand empty seats)? LOL.

Could you imagine Prohm tweeting about how Hilton's experience was lacking during the conference season to try to get people to actually make noise and show up?

Lol at Iowa State fans saying the renovation looks ugly. Every single fan in America (other than some of you, apparently) would prefer Iowa’s renovation to having a scoreboard that looks like an exit sign on I-35.
Woof! Woof! Woof Woof Woof! Your native tongue would make as much sense, boy.

Bad little, Benji! Bad little feller!

Could you imagine Hilton flooding? :D
You realize in '93 the whole State flooded, right?
And in '08 a good chunk of the State flooded again right? U of I had tons of buildings wrecked.

The concerning thing about Kinnick taking on water was that it was only what 2-3 inches (insert joke)? A serious question: has that happened before with heavy rain for an hour?

I'm aware. I was downtown Iowa City on leave in 08 when the Tornado hit. Scary S%(^. I'm not sure if the playing surface has flooded before. I'm assuming it has. I asked my brother who lives 4 blocks from Kinnick off of Sunset and he said he got about 5 inches in his electronic rain gauge in less than an hour that night. That is a whole lot of rain in a short amount of time. Hard for any drainage system to keep up. Sounds like the field will be fine for Saturday though.

Yeah, that's my main point. If it has flooded before, was there anything they could have done to improve.
If it hasn't flooded before, is the new addition partly to blame?

If those questions are asked to the AD, that probably solves a lot of the jokes, comments, tweets, etc.

Official statement says new addition had no bearing on the flooding.

Kinnick Stadium Update

Due to the severe storms and heavy rain that passed through Iowa City on Tuesday evening, water covered portions of the playing surface at Kinnick Stadium, which left some mud and gravel in a small area near the northwest corner of thefield. The issue was caused by the significant amount of rain in a short time, in and around Kinnick Stadium, and was not related to the Kinnick Edge construction project in the north end zone.

UI athletics department and facility management staff and representatives from Field Turf will work to restore and clean the entire playing surface in the next 24 to 48 hours so that the weather events of Tuesday evening will have no interference with Saturday’s football game with Northern Illinois (2:40 p.m., BTN).

I heard the addition was a big reason for the flooding but I'm not sure it really matters, they got some work to do to fix the field

I have a hard time believing that the new addition wasn't a major contributing factor in the flooding. The official statement makes it sound like they just have some minor cleaning to do and left out the fact that the playing surface has significant issues. Weird because Iowa usually knock the PR game out of the park....

For the people who don't believe the construction has anything do with the flooding why has Iowa's field never done that before and honestly why do you even care that the construction is what caused it? I know someone who works with the Gage Brothers so I sure think they would know what caused it

The plans are certainly public accessible...... I won't be looking for them ... but I am sure they exist.

I'm still in Shock at how ugly and out of place the NEZ is. I mean its basically a straight line across, it looks nothing like a bowl.

Just an odd thing for people to even care about. If I was an Iowa fan I would be more worried about the field being ready to go for Saturday then finding out an unfinished construction project caused something to go wrong

I'm shocked rival fan-bases hate the opposite team's stadium and prefer their own. It's almost like there is an inherent bias when it comes to this sort of thing. Truly shocking.

I think when finished the NEZ at Kinnick will make the stadium louder (which isn't saying much) and will be a cool feature for people with the money to use it but you can't deny it looks pretty terrible from pictures
