Kinnick north end zone renovation

Is that the same stuff we have in the Bergstrom facility? Saw that up close for the first time, early this summer. That surface feels really weird to walk on.

For the ones who are familiar with it, how does it compare to the turf in Jack Trice as a playing surface?

Think it is the same or very similar, been a couple years since I was on the bergstrom field.

So what would happen if that storm rolled through Saturday morning? That field would not be playable. Can’t drain and fix that that quickly.

This isn't a chest pump since ISU has grass but I'm pretty sure whenever you can play on grass the better if it can be maintained.

oh hey

There was flash flooding in Iowa City and 82mph winds by the stadium, I don't think anyone would be playing. The field was drained within 30-45 minutes. The bubbling process is actually a way of reducing stress on the pumps by pushing excess air under the surface of the grid.

Link? Mostly curious, but still doubting.

your point is founded on times when people posted photos to Twitter? Nah ... I'm interested in information that can be verified. It might not be there, and that is okay.

Now to the pump, and air bubble claim.... where is that?

I've heard it is a lot more severe than they're letting the public know. That stuff doesn't just lay back down like a rug

Of course it is. This is public relations 101, or perhaps 301 in Iowa City. I'm sure that company is scrambling right now.

Didn't realize how ugly that endzone is. It doesn't really even have a bowl look to it just a straight line basically.

It is very ugly, no doubt there. It doesn't match up with the rest of the stadium at all. Like you said, it's basically just a straight line across and none of it matches up with the sides at all.

And then they have that awful field turf on top of it. Players do not like playing on that crap anymore at all. It's more dangerous to the athlete. And who knows how safe it will be on Saturday with all the damage done to it with yesterday's storm?

Here's a pic I found showing how horrible this looks.....

What do you expect when the good architect school is in Ames? As for the turf, it will be pretty funny if it turns out like the BIG title game last year when the turf by the end zone was ripping up like a zipper and they had to pause the gameplay to fix it. How embarrassing that was.
