I am currently in a project of renovating my kitchen. I began putting up the wall cabinets yesterday and plan on starting the base cabinets either tomorrow or Wednesday. I have the following question when it comes to the range. I am planning on buying a 30-inch range for my kitchen that will go between two base cabinets. How much space should I put between each base cabinets for the range? I was thinking about 30 and 1/4 inch, but I am not sure if that would be too small. This would give about 1/8 of an inch on each side of the range, but I am afraid that the countertops (I am doing laminate) will overhang the cabinets by a little. So how much room should I put between both base cabinets for a 30-inch range?

For those of you that have other questions. I am doing this project myself, so I do not have a planner/designer helping me. I am using stock cabinets at home depot for my kitchen. This unit is going to be rental, hence why doing laminate countertops instead of doing granite or something else.

Having a 30 1/4 opening is just fine and I would recommend doing that actually. I'm a trim Carpenter by trade and always make my stove opening bigger then 30 inches if I can. If you are doing laminate, that gives a little bit of leeway for scribing.

Ranges are typically 29 7/8" wide to fit into a 30" opening, so having it 30 1/4 will not hurt anything. It will just give you a little more wiggle room.
