All Iowa Football Team---Post Bowl Edition

I agree with your point, but there is a big difference between a super vague “Iowa has potential/looks improved” and an “I think Iowa will challenge Wisconsin for the division title until the last weekend of the season” (which is what at least one of the BTN analysts believed).

Not saying to crown Iowa based on this, but there is reason for thinking Iowa could be really good this year.

Iowa and Wisconsin are the only 2 decent teams in the West, so you'd better hope Iowa is right up there with Wisky in the West. Anything besides a 1st or 2nd place finish in the West is embarrassing.

Sounds like you can make some money if you believe that.

How much and where?

I’d struggle if it was anything more than the 7.5 line. IMO 8 is a push number.

Nothing major, just a couple hundred bucks. Had a buddy place the bet for me when he was in Vegas a month or two ago; not sure which book he used.

I just don’t see 5 losses on that schedule unless something goes catastrophically wrong (i.e. injury to major contributor). They should be favorites in ten games.

Floor should be 9 wins this season. Ceiling 11 (not counting bowl). Penn State the only one I'd pencil in as a loss. Wisconsin will be obviously be tough, ISU is probably the 3rd most likely loss.

Kirk is a 7.5 win a year guy. That's not an opinion, that's not trolling, that's what it is.
At some point as a fan, if Iowa is expected to win 9-10 games a year and Kirk comes up short by 2, isn't that a problem?

Agree. I'd probably put ISU and NW at a tie. NW gives them fits too.
Purdue not that far behind that. I really like their coach.

An interesting question for this thread (both ISU & Iowa).

Who is 1 player from each team that could surprisingly make the "All-Iowa Football Team" by years end?

My pick for ISU would be Enyi Uwazurike. Think he is going to be really good.

I'll take a shot in the dark for Iowa & say they get a LB that isn't Amani Jones.

Northwestern is good. Nebraska has talent and a better coach this year but a brutal schedule.

Ojemudia, think he takes a big step forward this year

Offensively I'll go with Ihmir Smith Marsett. Defensively I will take a shot in the dark and say Geno Stone who I think surpasses Gervase on the Depth Chart by week 2 or 3.

I don’t think there’s any chance Uwazarike could make the All-Iowa team, mostly because of the other talent both teams have along the line. He’s not beating out A. Nelson, Bailey, Lima, Hesse, or Epenesa. Not a knock on Uwazarike, there is just a lot of talent and depth along the DL between both teams.

There is a lot of talent and depth, but coaches have said that he might have the highest ceiling of any ISU defender.

Not saying it will happen but I wouldn't at all be surprised.

Agree to disagree. Uwazarike could have a fantastic season and he is still at best the 6th DL between these teams this year. Who on that list do you think he could supplant?

It is his opinion that it could happen. How can you disagree with that. he isn't even saying it will happen just that it might be possible.

I think Ruth or Eisworth will end up there for ISU. I suspect ISM and/or (insert Iowa LB here) will end up being on the list too.

I don't know what your definition of fantastic is, but if he has a fantastic season with better statistics than some others, wouldn't it be safe to say that he might be better than 6th at that point?

I'm not going to say who I think he could supplant, but I think he could end up better than a few of the names you mentioned, both from Iowa & ISU.
