All Iowa Football Team---Post Bowl Edition

Some apparent takeaways from the BTN’s swing through Iowa City today:

- Iowa’s offense was impressive. Stanley and Fant are studs (we already knew this), but WRs and RBs look good too. OL performed better than expected.
- Iowa’s DL is deeper than it has been in a long time. The DE position is stacked with A. Nelson, Hesse, and Epenesa.
- Amani Jones was very impressive at the MLB spot.
- Gap between Wisconsin and Iowa is not as big as you would think.

I'd be interested to see what BTN's takeaways were from places like Rutgers & Illinois.....if you catch my drift.

Didn't you say that Iowa's receivers were some of the worst in the power conferences?
To go from that statement to believing good is quite a step up.

And Vegas says the gap is 2.5 wins.

They are excellent at putting lipstick on the proverbial pig. You generally have to read between the lines at what they don't say. Two years ago heading into Darrel Hazel's last season at Purdue there were some comments about "not being as far along as we thought they would be." Purdue was dreadful and Hazel was canned.

They get to see one practice out of camp, so it's not like great insight is gleaned. But it's some football at least.

Last year, yes. Not surprising when two of the top four receivers are true freshmen. They are both very good athletes; they are allowed to improve in the offseason.

Since you apparently think Vegas over/unders are definitive, I guess you must think it is a toss-up whether Iowa State makes a bowl game this year. That’s surprising given how many people on this site think ISU/OU is a toss-up or advantage: ISU this season.

That's basically what I was getting at. They'd get ripped if they directly pointed out what was wrong with each team/etc.

I hear you on talking some football. I've been itching for some decent talk.

Heck, I can hardly wait to watch the first games on next Thursday/Friday let alone ISU.

I don't think many people think that ISU has an advantage. That is silly.

Most probably see OU early in the year with a QB making his first road start for OU as an opportunity. I also think most probably realize that ISU has beat OU 6 times......ever

I agree with your point, but there is a big difference between a super vague “Iowa has potential/looks improved” and an “I think Iowa will challenge Wisconsin for the division title until the last weekend of the season” (which is what at least one of the BTN analysts believed).

Not saying to crown Iowa based on this, but there is reason for thinking Iowa could be really good this year.

Yeah I get they are allowed to improve but to go from some of the worst in Power football to good is quite optimistic.
And did I say Vegas O/U's are definitive?

And what the **** does Oklahoma have to do with anything?

I agree for the most part.

But you have to take some of what they say with a grain of salt.

They certainly will challenge Wisconsin for the West. I think Wisconsin will be a better team but road trips to Michigan, Penn St, Purdue, NW & Iowa makes for a tough conference road slate.

If Iowa's offense is a bottom feeder again this year I'm curious if you'll blame it all on the WRs again
