Ferentz's Emphasis on the ISU Game

You would think so, but no one in the National media has really paid any attention to Iowa this offseason. Even their Vegas O/U is only 7.5, despite being ranked in the 15-25 range in most statistical and advanced metric based preseason rankings.

That’s part of the reason I think Iowa could be in store for a big year- everyone knows that Iowa’s best years under KF come when they fly under the radar. They are definitely flying under the radar this year, but are expected by the computer models to be pretty good.

And now benji uses advanced metrics to support his viewpoint!

It seems as if Kurt has led Iowa to a role-reversal. If he focuses on beating ISU, the bitter rival, he can coast with a vanilla, milquetoast offense and above average, but due to a weak ass B1G West, over rated defense. Wisconsin & games like the Stanford one prove this out. He can average 7-8 wins per season, milk the school for big $ & hand the reigns to his anger-management needing (ahem... roid rage) son! Rinse & repeat - awesome. But you better like the same old same old. If you were a good, fast WR, would you want targeted 4 times per game tops? Luckily WRs aren’t key in the game today.

Just so long as he beats ISU, most of the Eye fans are content & that’s all he needs to stay. Some bicker & moan, wanting more. But others continually wear their rose colored glasses. Doesn’t get any better!! Go Eyes!!

You think maybe this might be the reason:

Sure- it’s a pretty easy schedule this year.

And that is why no one in the National media gives a rats rear end about:

Iowa’s best years under KF come when they fly under the radar.

Because everyone in the National media knows that when they eventually fly into the radar....this is what the nation will see:

They were pretty terrible last year and both are working through personal issues

They helped limit arguably the best D-line in the country to 1 sack for the entire game.

It's pretty clear both are extremely talented, just inconsistent as freshmen which isn't surprising.

I don't think anyone in the state of Iowa has a great OL at this point

Alaric Jackson was 1st team freshman All American. Wirfs may end up better. And they get to go up against Nelson and AJE every day in practice. Beasts.

Being better than a guy with some serious personal struggles isn't setting the bar that high
