The huricane could possibly affect us as well as the people of Texas. Guess where the BTN broadcasts from...wait for it...Houston!!! Possibly being affected Ike. From what I understand though is that they have a back up plan in case Ike presents a problem. :wideeyed:

Yeah it affects us.

I can't go to the Houston gamewatch as planned!

I'm hoping that if your in a evacuation zone that your safely away from League City, wind might not be terrible with this storm but the surge is very likely to be devastating. I'm extremely concerned about the folks in Galveston as from what I've heard that 40% of the city is staying put, thats definitely gambling with your life imo. Surge is predicted to be 15-22 ft and the seawall is only 17 ft.

Oh, I'm LONG gone. I live on the west end of League City (elevation 31 feet or so), but I got an e-mail notice after boarding up Wednesday night that Johnson Space Center was closing at noon Thursday, and liberal leave was in effect. I was sitting with some friends who work there with me (also ISU alums), and we made the call to leave at 5:30 Thursday morning. Beat traffic, fortunately, but the Dallas Morning News had a picture this morning of I-45 North clogged. I looked closely at the street sign and noticed the picture was taken a mile east of my house. Right now the eye is forecast to pass 6 miles east of my house. But yeah, the "certain death" label they used for Galveston people on CNN today is scary as hell.

So here I am in Dallas at the house of a friend of a friend (again, alums) who were kind enough to put us up. Gonna go to the DFW gamewatch at Jerseyville in Plano tomorrow. I need the distraction.

**** Iowa. Go State

As someone who bailed from New Orleans during Gustav I feel for you. Hopefully you come through this mess realtively unscathed.

If Ike hit New Orleans with the storm surge that Houston is supposed to get this town would probably never recover. The levees only go up to 20 ft in most places I believe

Why would the Big 11 network be set up to broadcast from Houston? That makes on sense at all. The closest big 10 team is probably Iowa and it is like 1500 miles away.

it doesn't make sense, since their offices are in Chicago...possibly they are using Fox equipment? If they are located in Houston. I don't really know, I just know what I heard.

I think this hit the nail on the head. I remember reading somewhere over the summer that they were using Fox equipment while they got the network up and running. As time goes by they'll purchase their own equipment and eventually be 100% independent.

100 MPH WINDS AT 50 FT HEIGHT NOW IN HOUSTON. Is BTN Fox stuff in a taller building?
