Just out of curiosity, and don't get all defensive because I am legitimately asking...
What constitutes a "rivalry" to you?
I don’t have a set definition for it, but there definitely has to be some type of disdain or animosity between fanbases. I don’t think that is there between ISU and KSU.
Um, K-State and KU for basketball.... We used to have more but they left the big 12 conference.

Basketball rivalries aren’t relevant to football. Neither are teams that used to be rivals but no longer are.
Well there is to a point. Skeletor has beaten us so many times now it hurts. And KU in basketball is a given. And lets be honest you hate ISU more as much as your next biggest rival, Wisky or maybe the made up game Nebtard?
Fair enough, however, ISU and KState are rivals. Iowa State has been playing K State since 1917.
In HS we had rivals that went back centuries, but I could lay a huge hit on them and then help them up afterwards. Having pure hatred for someone just because of competition means you have some deep issues.
Why do you need to have disdain for them or animosity? When I was in businesses where I had to compete against other businesses on a regular basis to gain customers I never hated the other guys. I knew we would go after each other hard but could stay in the same hotel and have drinks together at night knowing only one would get the job.
That doesn’t make them rivals though. Do Iowa State fans care about Kansas State the other 51 weeks of the season when they aren’t playing each other? In my experience the answer is no- I don’t ever see threads on CyFan about Kansas State, or tweets from Iowa State fans about Kansas State. Both fanbases just generally don’t seem to care that much about the other team.

Do you look outside the ISR, which stands for instate rivals? Surly and randomfan44 live here a strong amount, not crazy amount like you hawk trolls but still a lot.

But HS should be worse, because more people would be closer to those games. I’m sure very few people on message boards have played college football or basketball let alone for ISU or Iowa.
Just got a chance to respond to this. So mentioning the team in Ames is the same as ISU saying the word rivals. That is one monster stretch. How many teams in Ames are at the college level?
So since Iowa has a trophy game with Wisconsin, Minnesota and Nebraska do Iowa fans care about them the other 51 weeks of the year? Probably not.
I think KState fans would agree this is a rivalry, hence the series name "Farmageddon".
