Iowa Football Recruiting

What's the point you're trying to make with that article?
I am not making a point. The author is making a point. If you don't understand the point of the article then you really ought not be online.

The basis for the ranking you quoted, is performance based on draft picks (not recruiting rankings).

You quoted a post saying that iowa coaches don’t worry about rankings when recruiting. They care about finding kids that they can make into draft picks.

Just trying to get clarity here, because your rebuttal stinks ;).

Not trying to be a d*ck but if that is their #1 priority, you should be disappointed as a fan.

Derpy's ongoing narrative is how well Iowa does putting players in the league. This article destroy's derpy's narrative. If you haven't followed derpy's narrative I would understand that you may be confused. If you have been following...then not much I can say to you to help you get dialed in. right @derpyherky ?

Wrong derpy. Remember I am the original herky parody here. You're wanting my copycat, @Derpycy.

For the record- Iowa had moved on from Newsome a while ago. It’s not clear whether that is because they like Hunt and Fox better, or whether it is because Newsome told them he wasn’t interested.
Newsome had been rolling in CB's from recruiting insiders for weeks (not that those are the be-all end-all).

You guys have played the "we didn't want him anyways" on just about every football recruit you've missed on for two years now

Iowa offers more than one player at all position groups outside of kicker and punter. They offer the kids they feel they can develop to become a quality college players and often turn 2-3 star players into NFL quality talent. So once they have evaluate kids they work their list. Now it is true that Iowa has some position groups with more representation than others but the fact remains Iowa has still put 2-3 star players in the NFL regardless of position.

Iowa hasn’t, and I hope they never do, recruit based on stars but who fits and will fit in the Iowa system. Missing on a 2-3 star only to get another 2-3 star seems like an odd thing for iSu fans to celebrate.

It's a really tired narrative, and wrong in every respect, that Hawkeye fans continue to believe that they recruit in a manner different than other schools. It quite frankly reeks of arrogance. There's not a single team in the country that recruits "based on stars".

Iowa. Recruits. Exactly. The. Same. As. Everybody. Else.

That article really doesn't make much sense at all.
While the article wanders around a lot, one takeaway is that Iowa was within 3 spots of making the top 5 underachieving teams...that is, a team that has a bunch of NFL-level talent, but doesn't get the expected team results given the talent. So while Kirk does develop individuals, he is more challenged in developing a team. Got it.
