Garage Door Issue

Thought I'd check with fellow Cyclones on this one, I am stumped.

I've done a lot of Google-ing but need some help. My Liftmaster garage door works perfectly fine (goes up and goes down) with the button(s) inside my garage. However, my remotes (2 of them) will not close the door.

- I've verified it's not a battery issue. When I press the button, it makes the light on the garage door unit flash twice.

- It is not an issue with the safety sensors. One has an orange light, and one has a green light. They are aligned. Also, if I stand in the way of the sensors, the door will not close at all (as intended) and the light on the unit flashes more than twice.

After searching on Google, the light flashing twice when using remotes seems to indicate the 'lock' or 'vacation mode' is enabled. The people online are just saying, press your lock button on your button inside the house/garage and it will fix it right away. Well, all of the buttons I have inside the garage/home just have a single button wired up to the unit. It opens/closes the door (or at least used to). I do not have a lock or vacation mode button to press.

Do I need to factory reset? How do I do that? Is there a way I can make it think I pressed the lock/vacation mode button?

I've also done the standard unplug from wall, wait, then plug back in.

Flip the remote batteries? Hold the remote upside down? Sorry, it feels like Friday this afternoon and my logical brain is absent at the moment. Do you have a Liftmaster dealer close by to call?

One other thing -- by "button" do they mean a button on or near the power box by the ceiling, rather than your up/down button on a wall??

I'm guessing it's a button on the unit itself (i.e. - the part with the motor in it).

1. Do you have the manual to your opener? Check that. If not, go to the internet, get the manual, see what it says.
2. While mine is a Chamberlain, not Liftmaster, settings are done by climbing the stepladder to the unit, following instructions on troubleshooting in the manual.

Sorry, but that's all I can suggest.

I hear ya there!

The button I can get to work is the button that is mounted to the wall in my garage. It is a single button (looks kinda like a door bell). That makes it go up and down.

When I press a button on either remote control, all that happens is the light on the unit with the motor flashes twice.

Appreciate it. It's an older unit the previous home owner installed, but I did find the manual online. It says in the troubleshooting that vacation mode is on. It says to turn it off, hit the lock button on the mounted wall control. I don't have a lock button, just a single button lol

Not seeing anything in the manual to just factory reset the thing so I can start over.

I've seen this before with a fancier wall button. It had a little lock button that had to be turned on or off, like this:

My guess would be there's a way to change the setting on the opener itself.

Is the lock a slide switch, real small on either the top or bottom of your main button? The one on my controller inside the garage isn't easy to see, because it's black, just like the housing of the button.

I'd just buy a new remote and see if that works after syncing it to your garage. They're not that expensive.

Yeah, that's what it shows in the book. Mine is a single button and looks like a doorbell :(

I'll check for a slider tonight. As far as I can tell though it's just a re-purposed doorbell or something. The previous owner of the home was a hobby electrician. Lots of odd things going on haha

Are you sure sunlight isn't hitting the sensors?

Yep, it's east facing and I've tried it at night with sun in the back. Sensors seem to be working properly. If I block them, even the buttons mounted inside the garage don't work.

I have two buttons in my garage. One by the door into my house that looks like an old doorbell button and one of the 'fancier' ones with multiple buttons by the walk out door. Have you tried resetting it at the motor?

He's probably watching you struggle through a tiny camera on the wall mounted switch...

That will probably be my next thing. You're referring to the 'Learn' button on the motor?

It sounds to me like the “doorbell” button may be locked up and could be what’s preventing the remotes from working. This is just my guess, but it makes sense to me that the button could have shorted out (possibly water from the recent storms?) and if that’s not in proper operation perhaps the remote won’t work?

Unplug the garage door from the outlet and then remove the doorbell to verify the wiring.

Edit: NM, I just re-read your follow-up post that says the doorbell works.

My guess is the remote got out of sync with the motor. You should be able to try to resync the remote to the motor. Most likely a button on the back of the motor that you will need to push then push the remote to get them talking again.

Appreciate the suggestions! First I'm going to try to re-sync the remotes. If that doesn't work, I'll disconnect the "doorbells". If that also doesn't work... Maybe I'll borrow my in-laws button that has the "lock" on it and see if I can send the signal to it. Super weird this randomly happened.

The remotes will open the door but not close it, is that correct? And the wall button operates the door normally, i.e. both opens and closes the door?
