If you think Iowa or Iowa State are going to replace that game with anything other than a home game against a low major, I've got some hot Iowa beach front property you might be interested in.
They're just doing what the rest of the P6 are doing and has been reinforced by the committee in the past couple years. Play in a decent MTE, never leave home in November/December, go .500 in your league, get a bid and keep your job. Knew it was going to happen as soon as CBS/Turner ponied up the cash to get the tournament.

I get that, but 20 league games plus Iowa State, plus 4 for a holiday tournament puts you at 25. You still have 6 game you can schedule. Sounds to me like Fran and Barta just said, let's make all 6 of those games as easy as we can, like easier than UNI or Drake.
At least Barta had an out this time and couldnt get stone walled by JP like he did when trying to take a 2 year hiatus from the Iowa/ISU football game.
Plus the ACC challenge plus the Gavitt games opponent that we go 2 on 2 off with.
I don't think Fran has every scheduled an additional Power 5 game besides the ones he is locked into. He and his staff are notoriously bad at creating any kind of decent non con schedule. Now with the 20 game conference schedule it automatically will help with strength of schedule but some years more than others.
Ok, so you have 4 left to schedule. Am I wrong that they just want to make them as easy as possible?

Again, if Iowa wanted to play Notre Dame, they could have played them. Northwestern is now and also playing another noncon P5 team.
It would be different if Barta seemed like a reasonable, smart, and honest AD. Then sure, I could believe you. But he is a joke to a lot of Iowa fans and to opposing fan bases if they look at what he does.
We did a "home" and home with Ohio State too. They wouldn't play at Hilton so it was a womens/mens double header in Des Moines.
It was good going to Sioux Falls to play Colorado again. I'd prefer to play Minnesota home and home but they probably wouldn't want to do that. I'd love to do the Michigan one a lot more often.
Chicago. The B1G tourney in NYC was third fiddle to the ACC and Big East.
The B1G needs to keep the basketball in Chicago and football in Indianapolis, IMO.
tbh Minnesota is smart for not doing one with us. No positives come out of it for them
