It is only "depth" if all 13 are P6 players even then getting players flow and chemistry playing limited minutes rarely works.
As another thread asks, is it Cook and 12 other mid major players? If so the team ends up around 4-14 in a down year in the Big 10 (and a coach's contract extension).

The talent level will be better than last season. You add Wieskamp and lose Uhl, Wagner and Ellingson. Adding a borderline Top 50 kid and losing 3 of your least talented basketball players is a good thing.
And no, its not Cook and 12 mid major players.
Maybe they are trying to make sure Fran keeps his job? Or opposite, setting high expectations he won’t meet?
Last year it was Cook and a bunch of mid majors. I don't think Joe as a freshman changes that
Your assuming improvement from the current players which you should. That doesn't mean it'll be enough improvement to the P6 talent level. After all the 3 players that left were expected to "improve" to B10 level every previous year in gold and black according to Hawk fans and didn't.
Plus playing over a 8 man in a rotation stunts development and causes chemistry issues on the floor. Fran considering finding time for all 13 once again should be troubling to the fan base.
Rinse and Repeat.
There are several other players on the Iowa roster that are legit P6 players.
I hate the fact Fran plays so many guys. 8 or 9 should be tops, IMO.
