My wife and I are expecting a child any day now. (Due Date June 10th) We both like music and my wife wants music playing in the delivery room to take her mind off things and break the silence. I have been compiling a playlist. We like 90's rap/hip-hop and a variety of other music. Any specific suggestions on songs/artists?

More seriously, here are a couple playlists you can view on Spotify for the 90's, or you could just play them to save work on making your own playlist:

I wouldn't worry about it too much if I were you. Just bring in a bluetooth speaker and play a radio station for an artist you both like, or if you can't agree on one then pick one she likes since she'll be the one doing the heavy lifting.

Is this your first kid?

It frightens me that there is such a thing.

You should probably just be ready to play whatever she's in the mood for. She's going to blame you for all of her discomfort anyway so the key is to not make it worse.

At a certain point, I think I wasn't aware of much except pain... and I had an epidural.

Horrible fact: Not only is each birth different for every woman, every baby; but your reactions to pain medications can be different too.

We did a playlist with instrumental music only. It was a lot of normal/popular songs that we like - for some reason we both thought it was weird and distracting to have songs with words during the process.

I created a mix-CD for my wife when she was pregnant for the same reason. I called it 'Labor Pains' and had a picture of my dog nursing her puppies on it:) The only song suggestion I have is your wedding song. Good luck.

Congrats! Good luck to you. If you really want to put together a playlist then just a couple pieces of advice.

Favorite music is OK, but keep in mind that the memory of whatever happens in the birthing room will be forever tied to whatever music was playing as it happened. Labor can get messy, is all I'm saying. You don't want some of your favorite songs to remind you or your wife of some of the more humbling things that can happen during labor.

Try and focus on softer stuff that can be enjoyed or ignored. You'll have nurses and doctors in and out of the room pretty consistently checking in and asking questions. Don't keep them from doing their job with something loud and distracting.
