Is Fran building a regional powerhouse or just calling Iowa fans idiots and morons?

He is 177 lbs at age 18 and only has a 6'6 wingspan. When you consider his weight and he has zero length to make up for it that's a big problem defensively

He had a standing reach of 8'9" which is right in line with the other players that were of similar height at the tryouts. His length is fine.

Matthew Hurt, 6'10" and a standing reach of 8'10"
Jeremiah Robinson Earl 6'9" and a standing reach of 8'10"
Anton Watson 6'9.5" and a standing reach of 8'9.5"

The wingspan is really only a major deal if you are talking about NBA prospect. He can play just fine in NCAA with short wingspan. The more worrying thing is his weight/muscle mass at 6'8.

Who cares how old he is? Can you imagine what would happen to him in the paint in the Big Ten at 6'8 177 pounds?. Especially against a team like MSU?

I agree with @CyTwins on this one. A RS year will add a minimal amount of weight. He isnt going to want to be a 5th year senior as a 24 year old.

Yeah who cares about length of your wingspan defensively when you play for Fran. Lol

I would bet it is more likely than not that Fran gets fired at the end of this year. I don't see them making the tournament and attendance is probably going to be pretty bad after two straight bad seasons.

I'm starting to be reminded why I opted out of the ISR forums.

It's incredible that these threads are still going and September needs to get here right quick.

Honestly Patrick was probably the only player that you didn't hear a single positive thing about this weekend. Pretty telling

I'm not trolling. Barta can't afford to pony up 10 mill to let him go after this season. He's safe for another year for sure
That and all the crow he would have to eat. I have yet to meet one fan excited about that extension that isn't a cyclone fan.

Agreed once Barta offered that high of a buyout Fran is the Hok coach for at least the next two years. Barta should be the one one who's future is in doubt after offering the contract just last summer. Firing him and costing the department that much money would be an admission of the poor choice he made and affect his career. I don't see him doing that. Whether the Athletic Department could afford it shouldn't be the issue in my mind.

Solid move ignoring the part of the post that discusses his athleticism. His supposed lack of athleticism is one of the knocks on him, according to a few posters on this board.

How is his athleticism going to work when he gets bodied by guy who are better athletes than he is? He isn’t Reggie miller with a plus shooting skill, he gets many of his points at the rim.

That dries up because he isn’t strong enough to hold his own. Plus you can try to hide him on defense, but that scouting report will be out there immediately and he will get abused like everyone else on your team on the defensive end

Miller had a 7 foot wingspan, he didn't have T Rex arms

I dont think Patrick is going to add 30-50 lbs to his frame while at Iowa so this is really a moot point. I would be thrilled if he got to 200 while at Iowa.

That’s almost 30 pounds doesn’t matter where it comes from it will effect his athleticism
