Graham Couch: Iowa Basketball is a mid-major roster

I think NCAA's need to be the expectation but I think it's an uphill battle for them to get there. I'll be really curious to see fan reaction if Fran goes to the NIT next year. Clear improvement, his kids are lined up, and there is no way Barta fires him with that.

They can't afford to fire him after next year no matter what happens fortunately

Iowa's not making the tourney next year. That's 3 straight misses. Any P5 program would fire their coach after that in today's world this deep into a tenure if they could financially afford it

How can you disagree with this @YeahBuddy? Fran isn't getting fired if he misses the tourney this upcoming year because of his contract

Iowa could afford it. Barta wont do it but it wont be because of the buyout.

Lol Barta wouldn't fire a coach who:

Missed 3 straight tourneys in year 7, 8 and 9
Has 2 NCAA tourney appearances and one play in game loss
Attendance is awful

The only reason a P5 coach doesn't get fired if that's the case is because of money. There is no other reasonable explanation

The top 25 attendance thing always makes me laugh because Iowa averaged 30th in attendance under Lickliter. Iowa's attendance has gone down like 2500 in the last two years and will be even more than that after this upcoming season. Like I said, it comes down to not having the resources to get out of the buyout

Iowa could afford it. Barta wont do it but it wont be because of the buyout.

I don't think Barta would get the chance to get rid of him. I would think Barta's would lose his job, I sure hope not as he is a wiz at negotiating contracts, first and it would be up to the new AD to part ways with Fran.

I would love to see the torches and pitchforks come out when Fran doesn't make the tourney this year. The writing has to be on the wall for him. If not, who is running the asylum in Hawkeyeland?
