Wigginton declaring for NBA Draft, not hiring agent

LW made a stretch decision to try for the NBA after 1 year. His skills are unpolished but he does have future potential. Now he seems to be in desperation mode. Past ISU players like Naz Thomas Niang Morris bled Cardinal and Gold and were all-in. LW appears to be all-out. I hope he comes back , but I don’t expect it at all. What he gave us last year is replaceable, but what he should give us this year is not.
I want to believe this is satire

Regarding the comments on the podcast, I'll put it this way:

Melvin Ejim was the Big 12 Player of the Year. However Melvin Ejim also came to Iowa State fully prepared to play four years, get his degree and move onto play professionally if the option was there.

I don't believe that Lindell Wigginton ever came to Iowa State planning on being here four years. To him, it's a way to get to the pros.

Make sense?

And hopefully people realize it doesn't make him a bad dude, it just makes him a typical top 50 basketball player.

We've had others that probably came here with the intention of only playing 1-2 years, and he won't be the last.

I would bet Morris thought he would be 2 & done, but there was a different culture at that time (harder to walk away from Naz, Thomas, Niang, etc). Also, Wigginton has some physical tools that Morris didn't have, so it may be more realistic for Lindell to leave early.

The bottom line is that when you sign top 50 guys, NONE of them will intend to stay here for 4 years if the opportunity presents itself.

Yep. I totally agree with all of that.

Agree with this although I suspect Monte’s mom was a factor in wanting him to get his degree.

You telling me baby Franny is thinking of going pro in a couple? Maybe he slipped out of top 50.

basically it looks like LW is either coming back or going the G league or Europe route. Can't believe that he is good enough to be drafted at all at this point, especially from being a guard. We will have to wait and see what happens.

Are there any good transfer guards still out there?

I know about Lathon and AJ Green as being slight possibilities, but I haven't kept up with the transfer market since we landed Nixon.

Lol, is this where we take the imaginations of posters who are freaking out and then apply them to the situation as if they were true?

It was always Lindell's goal to get to the NBA before his senior year, and as a top 30ish player it should be. LW was also on record prior to last year that he would only leave when he is ready.
His actions so far align with that, all he has done is get feed back to this point. He has been on record this spring that it is NBA or ISU (no Europe/G-League). We'll know by May 30th, until then he is just taking advantage of his options, getting more exposure and making connections. Smart on his part.

He may end up going pro but I still argue he hasn't heard from any team what he wants to hear for him to declare. There is no benefit to him keeping quiet if he has decided to go. There is benefit to keeping his name out there just in case a team does want to make some kind of commitment at the last minute. Everyone knows the deadlines here so It's possible a team may call at the 11th hour and tell him what he wants to hear.

Monte Morris and Deonte Burton both took a look at some point prior to their senior season.

Monte decided pretty quickly though. He never publicly said he was looking at leaving early and announced he’d be back in early April. If Monte had been really serious about leaving he would have announced he was going into the draft and waited to see what workouts he could get. It’s not like in early April he was told that no teams were interested in him working out. I suspect that montes decision was based some on his injury and some on the fact that he got along with prohm.

Every time I refresh this page, my heart skips a beat or ten. Come on with this decision already!

Every time I open this thread, I lose a little more faith in my fellow Cyclone fans. Whether or not he stays or goes, there are some ridiculous opinions out there, and a lot of posters acting like real jerks.
