Wigginton declaring for NBA Draft, not hiring agent

Let’s not pretend if Wigg stayed in the draft that we wouldn’t have a large contingent of vocal posters putting Prohm on the hot seat, asking what is going on with the program, bashing Wigg as “not ready”, and generally predicting the demise of ISU basketball all under the guise of just being “concerned”.

I was going to write something along those same lines; the Prohm-Haters will be out in full-force.

Most 1 and done are one and done because they are pretty much gonna be a 1st round draft pick...6’2 combo guards with 6’3 wingspans who werent invited to the combine don’t get drafted in 1st round or maybe even get drafted.. Seems odd to me if he goes..Really hope he makes the right decision for him because 2 draft boards as of right now for 2019 have him fringe 1st round.

One thing i know, i would always question is “gosh if i just stayed that one more year i wonder if i could have been a 1st round pick and been set for life”...At best LW is a 2nd round pick this year at very best. At worst he’s a 2nd round pick next year. Knowing that you come back.

I wonder whats more common, getting last place in your conference with a 1 and done player (FTR, I still think LW comes back another year) or failing to make any post season tournament with the # 1 pick on your team (Ben Simmons and LSU).

Markelle Fultz was the #1 pick last year and led Washington to a 9-22 record.

Haha..i was wondering if someone would make a countdown clock..well done.

I just read an article from Canadian media from couple weeks ago just talking about LW and being first Nova Scotia player drafted in NBA. it makes it pretty clear that LW has zero desire to play in developmental league..G league. LW and others around him have to know that if he stays in draft this year that the chances of him even getting drafted are pretty low but also playing next year in G league are very high...Hope he makes right call and wish him best in whatever he decides.

Link? I’d be interested in reading that

Expectation is to make the NCAA Tournament regardless of LW's decision. If any P5 school missses NCAA two years in a row there should be some legitimate questions asked.

Luckily I think we get back to the tournament provided Lewis continues where he left off.

Very few play in a conference with 9 potential NCAA teams.

Actually a lot of them play in a conference with 9 potential NCAA teams. Very few plays in a conference where 70-80% of the teams will make the tournament. But that is the nature of our conference and it isn't changing. The Big 12 will have 6-8 teams in the NCAA tournament every year based on recent history and the coaches in this league.

I love the kid. He seems like a great young man. I’m glad he’s a Cyclone for life.

But there is no way he is on an NBA roster next year. No matter where he is drafted or not. He does not have the size to be a professional wing or the handle to be a professional point guard. Yet. I think he will get there, but he needs at least another year. I hope he realizes that.

It is up to him if he wants to work on that in Ames, in the NBA AAA, or in Europe.

Maybe he just wants to start getting paid? Think about it: NBA routinely drafts based on potential and measurables. They don't put a whole lot of emphasis on intangibles or college stats (Niang, Morris exhibits A and B). Lindell certainly still has some untapped potential, but he's done growing. That 6'3'' wing span and 6'2'' height aren't getting any bigger. Perhaps he sees his pro potential as writing on the wall, and just wants to start earning a paycheck while he's young and healthy. Just trying to play devils advocate.

That's a great point. If the feedback he is getting is completely focused on his measurables, then that is something that is never going to change, and it probably would make sense for him to just move forward with his professional career right now. However, if the feedback is more focused on his ball-handling and other skills he can improve on, then it would make more sense for him to come back, as previously discussed ad nauseam.

Could be sure. Yep his measurables are what tell me he’s not getting drafted 1st rd. Now if he had true pg skills along with everything else then i could see him fringe of 1st rd..but my feeling is scouts see him as an undersized SG...So it could be hey go back to ISU and play pg and develop your pg skills or you are a undersized SG and are prob a 2nd round pick no matter what..Problem is I don’t really see a team drafting him this year in 2nd rd. It is a deep guard draft and there are always 3-4 international kids picked every year nobody expected. Seems like in interviews he’s always wanted to be 1st Nova Scotian drafted adn first one to make NBA.. I think we all hope his dreams are fulfilled at some point.

That happens all the time. It would be far from an ISU thing.

Yeah, every year there are guys who stay in the draft who aren’t big time prospects. They’re just ready to play professionally somewhere. You just don’t hear about them because they weren’t on a good NCAA team and probably aren’t ever going to play much the NBA. It’s not really as they’re “in the draft” as much as they are done with college sports.

According to CW, Wiggs really wants to be a pro, so how much could he expect to make in Europe if he went there this season? Because I don't see him being on an NBA roster, and in the G league you make about as much as bagging groceries. So I feel his only chance at making some decent money would be in Europe. What could he get over there?

If you are referring to the podcast, I took it as he wanted to be professional about how he made the decision.
