Graham Couch: Iowa Basketball is a mid-major roster

Pretty sure you can opt out of seeing the ISR forum posts....just a thought.

I'll opt out if you quit trolling. Well, we all know you well enough on here about promises you made. So I guess I won't opt out but will continue to post on here until the mods close this thread.

Dont take yourself too seriously. Everything I was posting yesterday was sarcasm but people still got butthurt

That makes more sense. For a second I thought you believed Garza was above average lol

Hes got a ways to go defensively. I think he is decent offensively but he needs to it against the best of the best now.

If I am being honest. Iowa is going to bottom out. Fran will leave. We will go with the transfer market but will hire a coach no one wants.

You guys are pretty smart, who do you think Iowa should get if Fran does in fact tank this year?

I am not sure on this one. I can see an up and comer being the most realistic. But I am out of the loop on who those guys are nowadays

I tend to think Iowa will be NITish this year, which will be enough to preserve Fran.

But, if he gone, with the most recent two (okay, three) hires of "up and comers," I'd think they'd have to either take a waiver on someone with past transgressions, or shell out major $ to get a big splash name who has already proven themselves.

I don't think it'd be popular with the fans and boosters if the AD goes the same route that hasn't borne fruit the previous 2.5 times. (I do not consider Alford to be a complete miss)

I will sulk if Iowa makes the NIT and Fran is back and Patrick is the only good recruit we have. He actually looks really good for D1 Minnesota, but Him and Weiskamp are not program saviors.

No worry.

So you're telling me Pitino is bringing his talents to Iowa City?!?!?

Here is where a majority of Hawkeye fans sit with Fran. I will be 100% realistic here. No troll job. I am sure the homers, like myself did a few times until this past year will say we are ok but the truth is we are screwed.

- Recruiting - No confidence he can recruit well enough to build a well round roster, it just has not happened unless you count Uthoff, Woody, Gessell falling into his lap. Weiskamp has not done anything but he could easily be added. As could his own kids with Connor and Patrick. Cook and Garza are the only highly sought after guys he has landed in 8+ years so far that are not Fans or relation.

- Coaching..... I just do not get it, the defensive mindset has to change but it hasnt in 8 years. His only good team defensively was full of seniors. They pretty much can teach themselves at that point. He sucks at playing the right rotations and guys. It drives me up the wall we have a guy that is doing well and then he sits a whole half.... See Moss and Dailey. His end of game coaching is absolutely awful. We have won 2 games off the top of my head in the last seconds. The percentages are terrible if you do that over 8 years. He melts down at the worst possible times. It has gotten better the past few years. His fan interaction is bad. If you question him or his guys you are trash.... but come on Fran, we have the right to do that with how bad it has been.

Fran is a guy I want to like. He has passion for his family and the game. He does a nice job compared to Ferentz in a press conference (until this past year). BUT he needs to get his head out of his butt if he wants to stay at Iowa, because we are loyal to a fault. We stick by our guys until it is over. But we are not loyally stupid. We do get restless and stop going to games if we see no improvement.

Iowa fans want Iowa to be good, which in turn makes us want Fran to turn it around, but the history of his actions at Iowa has most of us at a wait and see for this season and recruiting. We probably know how it will end, and it will be ugly if he tanks recruiting and coaching this year and comes back for 2019-2020.
